I need some entertainment this afternoon, so I'm borrowing this game from [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing. I had the best time when she hosted it on her LJ some weeks ago.

The Six Word Story Game
Hemingway once wrote a story in just six words ("For sale: baby shoes, never worn.") and is said to have called it his best work. Comment with your own story - original, fanfic, whatever - of only six words. Have fun with it!

I'll go first. Come play with me!!!!!!

WIP Meme

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations [I'm planning to ignore this part of the meme]. No more than one sentence [and also this part *g*]!

Honestly, I think this is more WIP amnesty than anything else for me. Which is too bad! I do like some of these ideas.

1. The chorus had been going on all morning. The lion had started it. "Take it slow!"

I started this story for [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy's birthday...I don't even know how many years ago. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy!) I have a page and a half, and it's funny. I like it! But I have no notes and absolutely no memory of what I had planned for the rest of the story. *sad face*

2. The moment the Ancient artifact went whoosh in his hands, lighting up as bright as a 100-watt bulb, pulsing through every color in the spectrum like some demented Christmas display, John knew he was in trouble.

Began this as a choose-your-own-adventure story. Got busy. Never finished it.

3. "I always knew I didn't trust that Jolly Green Giant dude." Dean just managed to duck as a carburetor went sailing past his head.

You wouldn't think writing a sex toy story starring Sam and Dean would be so difficult, but sadly, it was.

4. It's the stink of disinfectant, a big whiff of it, that John wakes up to, an experience all too familiar.

I was going to write the back-in-Atlantis sequel to Alpha Male, but I never did.

5. Rodney sleeps the way he lives, grasping and expansive. The sheet is tucked tightly beneath his chin, hand fisted in it as if he's fending off cover-nappers in his dreams.

I've been trying to write this voyeurism story for [livejournal.com profile] barely_bean for a couple of years now. *fails*

Original stuff I'm still working on )

In other news, Elizabeth Bear is bumming me out so much. Please, please stop talking now, E. Bear.

Also, I'm being besieged by Russian spam. I wish this would stop, as well.

On the brighter side, Pete and Patrick are still ADORABLE.

I saw this meme a while back, and was intrigued, but didn't have time to do it then. So weeks later...

Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you something I knew, learned, or wondered about while writing it that didn't make it onto the page.

Hit me!

As seen around my flist, most recently from [livejournal.com profile] amaresu.

Pick up to 15 OTPs.
Describe them in less than 15 words.
Have your flist guess the OTP.

Guess my OTPs! )

ETA: All guessed! Good work, people!

I'm a little late with this. Work has been kicking my butt lately. Anyway, I almost never get tagged for these things, and I was happy that [livejournal.com profile] bernjourn included me in this.

A. People who have been tagged must, if they choose to participate, write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question. Please italicize the new question if you do that.

B. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you. (These are the official rules. Personally, I say if you don't want to tag people, don't tag people! *g*) I tag, in a completely no-pressure way: [livejournal.com profile] pun, [livejournal.com profile] linaerys, [livejournal.com profile] isagel, [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, [livejournal.com profile] swanswan, [livejournal.com profile] linzeestyle, [livejournal.com profile] anitac588, [livejournal.com profile] hackthis and anyone else who wants to be tagged.

The "Be Pete Wentz" Poetry Meme

01. Put your music player on shuffle
02. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title

This mellow, sweet, short-haired boy, woman offers pull up a seat... )

Oh, Pete. Hee.

The first 5 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble/short fic from you. In return, they have to post this meme in their journal. Post all fandoms you're willing to write for.

I'm in the mood to write fandoms and pairings I haven't written that much in the past. So I'm offering:

FOB slash (Pete/Patrick)
Baseball slash (Jeter/A-Rod)
Firefly (Mal/Simon or any character gen)
Bones (Booth/Brennan)
Fringe (Olivia/Peter)
Pushing Daisies (Ned/Chuck or any character gen)
Burn Notice (Michael/Fiona, Michael/OMC, or any character gen)
Torchwood (Jack/Ianto or any character gen)
House (House/Wilson, Cuddy)
L.A. Confidential (White/Exley)
Ocean's 11 (Rusty/Danny)

OR

Suggest a crossover pairing from any of the fandoms you find on my website.

OR

Give me a picture that sets the mood, and I'll either supply the fandom or write something original.

--I'm going to write drabbles, exactly 100 words.
--Please leave a prompt. It really helps me!
--If I don't feel your suggestion, I might ask you to try again.
--It's my goal to finish all five drabbles in one week.
--This is not an actual promise. *g*

ETA: Okay, I have my five. If you want to go ahead and leave a prompt anyway, feel free. If it sparks something, maybe I'll write it, but I make no promises. Except that if someone leaves me a FOB prompt, they'll probably get a drabble! :)

(As seen around the flist.)

In an interview with Katie Couric, Sarah Palin was unable to name any Supreme Court case she disagreed with other than Roe v. Wade. One suspects she would have been hard-pressed to name another Supreme Court decision, period.

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic, to your LJ. (Any decision, not necessarily one you disagree with, just as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN LJ to spread the fun.

Here's one you just need to watch Law and Order to know about...

Miranda v. Arizona - In 1963, Ernesto Miranda was accused of kidnapping and raping an 18-year-old, mildly retarded woman. He was brought in for questioning, and confessed to the crime. He was not told that he did not have to speak or that he could have a lawyer present. At trial, Miranda's lawyer tried to get the confession thrown out, but the motion was denied. In 1966, the case came in front of the Supreme Court. The Court ruled that the statements made to the police could not be used as evidence, since Miranda had not been advised of his rights.

Since then, before any pertinent questioning of a suspect is done, the police have been required to recite the Miranda warning. The statement, reproduced below, exists in several forms, but all have the key elements: the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. These are also often referred to as the "Miranda rights." When you have been read your rights, you are said to have been "Mirandized."

As for Ernesto Miranda, his conviction was thrown out, though he did not become a free man. The police had other evidence that was independent of the confession, and when Miranda was tried a second time, he was convicted again. After release from prison, Miranda was killed in a barroom brawl in 1976.

I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing's LJ and thought it looked like fun.

Step 1: Put your iPod player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 35 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly. (Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!)

Some of these are ridiculously obvious, but I decided not to skip them anyway.

ETA: I added a few more lines to the songs that haven't been guessed yet.

First lines... )

Book Meme

There's nothing I love more than a big list of books and checking off the ones I've read! *g* I got this one from [livejournal.com profile] catmoran.

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

Two were taken out of the list because they were repetitive.

I didn't italicize any, because I never know what I'm going to read until I'm reading it.

My list )

43 out of 98, and I read most of them in high school. I was SUCH a geek. *bg*

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] elyssadc had a great idea for an add-on to this meme. Name your top five books that you had to read in school that were left off this list. Here are mine:

1. The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner (which is my favorite novel of all times)
2. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway (one of my professors gave a lecture on this book that made even the lacrosse players in my class look like they were on the verge of tears)
3. The Collector by John Fowles (which I didn't technically have to read for school, but did read when I was in high school)
4. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston (which still makes me cry when I read it)
5. The Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys (so fascinating to read that after we read Jane Eyre)
scribblinlenore: (Default)
This meme has been all over my flist, and I've been having fun guessing. So I thought I'd throw out some quotes, too.

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb, and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

Hit me with your best shot! )

You know, I often want to participate in things like the Feedback Meme, but I feel like I'm pandering too much for attention, so I don't. Lately, though, my writing has been going...well, kind of poorly. So I decided: pandering, why not? *g*

Here I am.

In unrelated and completely unsurprising news, I still really, really, really love Firefly. A lot!

I'm really supposed to be doing other things today, but I saw this meme on [livejournal.com profile] celli's LJ, and I just HAD to request more Matt/Mohinder. So…now it's my turn.

MEME: The first fifteen people to comment on this post get to request a drabble from you. In return, they have to post this meme in their journal. Post all fandoms you’re willing to write for.

Fandoms: SGA, Supernatural, Smallville, Heroes, Gossip Girl, JeteRod, or hey, if you want something else, give it a whirl. If I can do it, I will. If not, you can pick something else.

ETA: That's it. My 15 requests. Thanks all for playing!
scribblinlenore: (Default)
Yes, I'm at it again. No, I don't have anything better to do. I'm still on vacation! *g*

So, [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon has a delightful Kissing Meme going on over at her LJ, with 68 John/Rodney kisses and still climbing.

Here's my contribution:

Sleeping Atlantis
John/Rodney, PG
Approx. 1400 words

This seemed like a really fun meme:

The rules are simple. You comment with your username, and people can tell you what they want to see you write. Or draw, or vid, or icon, whatever. Despite the name, they don't have to do it anonymously, though of course they certainly can. You then go through the comments and if you see that person who you've always wanted to write a Green Arrow AU set in the Terror, where Ollie is a Scarlet Pimpernel-esque figure, smuggling people out of Paris, then you tell them that they should write it.

Obviously I'm making no promises, but I'm always open to inspiration, so if you want to tell me what to write, go here.

Who knows? Maybe you all want me to write gen. *g*
