It's silly he knows to get so choked up about it, but the two of them, husband and friend…it's the strongest sense of family he's had since his parents died.

This part was just beautiful. It conveyed to me the closeness between Clark and "Al" and the beautiful life they made for each other. Since I am quite aware of what happens after this in the movie you base your story on, I must honestly say that I wish Clark and Al could just keep what they have now without the past of "Al" ever intruding again. This is a wonderful life those two have created together/you have created for them. I am getting all sentimental about it.

Glad that you decided to write more of this story which I love very much because Al is an especially lovable incarnation of LL.
