I took some inspiration for this scene from that moment between Clark and Morgan Edge, after the RedK is gone, but he still has some of that RedK ferocity. Dominance and agression are natural impulses, and Clark has some territorial feelings about Lex, just like Lex does Clark.
But you're right. Clark has some soul-searching to do. And I suspect they'll be staying in for a quiet evening at home in Halloweens to come.
