I think part of what I loved about that Mitzi/Lex moment was the way she immediately leapt to the (quite correct) assumption that if Clark and Lex had quarrelled, it must be Lex's fault. She's obviously fond of Lex, but she has no illusions about him.
One thing I forgot to mention earlier was that I also liked the Toby/Lex interaction. For one thing, it provided some humour, which was a nice counterweight to the overwhelming angst earlier in the section. It also showed Toby being a doctor, albeit an unconventional one, and worrying about Lex's penchant for self-destructive behaviour, for allowing people to hurt him for kicks.
