2019 Yuletide Dear Author Letter

Thank you for writing for me! I included specific notes about each fandom in my nomination, so here's a little bit about my general preferences.

I have a very broad range of enjoyment when it comes to stories. I like slash (both dudes and ladies), het and gen, and I will happily read any rating. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people, whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! I appreciate angst in a story, especially if the source material really calls for it, but I also enjoy when a story ends on a hopeful note.

A few things I'm not really into are: non-con, graphic violence, and gore. I'd prefer not to receive a crossover or a totally non-canonical AU.

Ondine (2009)
Annie, Ondine, Syracuse

There are so many things I love about this movie: how Ondine and Syracuse are both so lost until they find each other, the charming and precocious Annie, the hopeful message that it's never too late to turn your life around and become a better version of yourself, the realistic portrayal of change as hard work, Syracuse, Ondine and Annie becoming a family, and of course the lovely fairytale quality of the story with the selkie lore threaded throughout.

I would love a story that focuses on the three of them as family. Maybe it's the first meal they take together or the day of Syracuse and Ondine's wedding or years in the future when they are sending Annie off to university or it's Annie's wedding day. It would be interesting to see how outsider Ondine fits into small-town life. Or it would be great to see an exploration of how all three lives change now that Annie has a second chance at health.

The one thing that wasn't completely satisfying to me about the film was the resolution to the delightful tension of, "could Ondine possibly actually be a selkie?" I would have loved that little niggle of doubt to remain. I would be thrilled beyond belief if you found a way to rethread selkie lore through their story.

A Simple Favor
Emily Nelson, Sean Townsend, Stephanie Smothers

My primary interest is the relationship between Stephanie and Emily, so feel free to include Sean or not as your muse guides you.

One of the things I love most about the movie is how everyone thinks they have Stephanie pegged, totally underestimating her--even Emily, who is an expert at reading people and calculating all the angles. Perhaps my favorite moment of the movie is at the end when we learn that Stephanie is continuing to use her mom network to solve cold cases. Go, Stephanie!

I would love to see how the relationship between Stephanie and Emily continues after Emily goes to prison. Do they send each other letters? Does Emily follow Stephanie's vlog and chime in with her own criminal insight into the cases Stephanie is investigating? Does she find ways to make trouble for Stephanie and Sean from jail? Are there more McLanden family mysteries that need solving? Is there even more to Emily's story than we know?

Or if future fic isn't your thing, it would be really interesting to get Emily's POV on the events of the movie. What is she thinking when she initially befriends Stephanie? Is it just about getting free childcare? Or is there something else about Stephanie that catches her interest? When does she first begin to realize that she may have underestimated Stephanie? How does she feel about Stephanie's relationship with Sean? Or tell me more about that kiss between Emily and Stephanie!

On that subject...I found the kiss and the general vibe between Stephanie and Emily super hot, and yet I don't exactly ship them. I'm more into their relationship as frenemies and dueling masterminds. However, as I said, hot, so if you want to add sexy times to their relationship as frenemies and dueling masterminds, I'm SO here for that! Just give me more of these two intriguing ladies, however you want to write them, and I'll be psyched.

L. A. Confidential
Bud White, Ed Exley

My final request is an oldy but a goody. I love this movie--and the relationship between these two guys--as much as when I first saw L.A. Confidential. I ship Ed and Bud, but if you don't, no worries. I adore their working relationship and erstwhile friendship just as much. I'd just love to get a bit more of these two guys together.

Maybe Arizona doesn't work out for Bud, because he just can't stop being a policeman, and he returns to L.A. and partners up with Ed. Or maybe Bud stays in Arizona, but can't stay out of trouble, and Ed has to come to the rescue. Or maybe it's the other way around...Ed gets into some kind of jam without Bud to watch his back. When you're as ambitious as Ed, you're going to make enemies. Maybe some of his past decisions come back to bite him. Or maybe there's more to the story of Mickey C.'s missing heroin, someone besides Dudley calling the shots, and Ed and Bud have to figure out the mystery to save themselves and the good people of L.A.

If future fic isn't your thing, I'd love a missing scene from the timeline of the movie: the two of them sorting through clues, having a meal, spending time in each other's homes, sharing stories about their pasts, something that shows them getting to know one another and coming to trust each other.

I adore these guys--and any story you tell me about them will be much loved!
