Non-HP Sandbox

I'm happy for all my HP-loving friends on their big day. But I feel a little left out on LJ today. So I thought of a game we Smallville peeps can play.

The Smallville Drabble-a-Thon

Our show offers so much to stir our drabble-writing imaginations, whether it's the long, lingering glances between Clark and Lex in pretty much every episode in S1, Pete checking out Chloe's ass in the rearview mirror in "Rush," or the Lionel-in-Clark lust for mamma Martha in "Transference."

Every episode of Smallville gives us something to write about, a missing scene to add, a wrong we'd like to right. So I propose a drabble-a-thon that does just that. Below you'll find a comment with the name of every Smallville episode that's ever aired. Choose one and write a drabble based on that episode. When you're done, leave it as a comment to the episode title. If you're having fun, do another one! My goal is to have a drabble for each one, so the drabble-a-thon will go on as long as that takes. *g*

Come on out and play! You know you want to. If you don't want to write a drabble yourself, have fun reading them and be sure and leave the authors some love in the comments to their drabble. And please, help spread the word!

And to my lovely HP friends, if you need a break, we'll be here.

ETA: By drabble, I mean something short enough to fit into the comments. It doesn't have to be exactly 100 words, although it can be, if that's what you prefer. Have fun with it!

Here's a running list of drabbles we have so far:
Pilot
Metamorphosis
X-Ray
Cool
Hourglass
Craving
Jitters
Rogue
Shimmer
Hug
Leech
Kinetic
Zero
Nicodemus

48 down, only 40 more to go!

Sight down the end of the arm to the gun along the barrel into the face and back up along the arm into his own head. Sight down the end of the arm to the gun along the barrel into the face and back up along the arm into his own head.

Beforeafter, there was someone else on the end of a metal wall redblue bluered he had held him but they don't talk about it so it never happened. Or had he saved him from a grey wall inside him or outside in the world? A head-doctor, he was, or she was. A giant, metal-tearing secret that ripped up the world the love the secret kisses the... wrong secret. Different secret this time. He had come to save him but it was too late because that was beforeafter.

Sight down the end of the arm to the gun along the barrel into the face and back up along the arm into his own head. Redblue body crushing into him and warping the world. Secret of kissing or crashing cars secret holding redblue body near him as he looks up into a skybright... it's too bright. His neck hurts and the sewing machines are buzzing "Don't tell of the redblue crushing bodies, kissing mouths and crushed cars, or the sight down the end of the gun to the face back along the barrel"

He focuses on the redblue body (in the bed at night when the guards are gone) in the road in the road and the guards are here so why is he saving him in daylight? The arm holding the gun that sights along the barrel is getting wobbly bu the secret kissing will save him with a big metal-tearing secret that is something about love, unlike the gun.

And then it clears. He can see himself in a cool blank room and he wraps his own arms around himself. He knows a secret about someone that's more important than kissing. He thinks of it in the cool blank of his mind in the soft-edged room and hugs it to himself.

My first non-drabble SV snippet:

You can’t sleep.

The functional metal slab they call a bed feels cold to the touch. You lie there, eyes closed, dreaming of colors … Fire-engine reds. Autumn sky blues. Sun-bright yellows. All burning in their primary brightness against the drab grey walls of your prison box.

There are cameras everywhere, recording his every move, his every whisper. He has to keep quiet. Nobody can find out about his secret. Clark’s secret. They are one and the same – Clark is his, and his alone. Nobody else can have him.

You are sane. You know your mind is clear. No matter what they tell you. You’re smart enough to trick them into believing you’ve been eating those pills that they force-feed you with.

The only impossible things he remembers are those of Clark. Of Clark running in from nowhere to save him like always. Of Clark stopping an on-coming car with his bare hands … Those lovely strong hands, smooth and as un-callused as any high-bred society lady. Of Clark staring at him with those wide, impossibly green eyes, shocked but beautiful. Like a young god who had been caught unawares, exposed to mortal eyes who were never meant to know the truth. But Lex will be a faithful acolyte; he will make sure that it is only to eyes who are worthy of gazing upon the truth. His own. No-one else’s.

The once-familiar smell of sterile hospital cleanliness sickens you.
The uniform hospital clothes chafe at your sensitive skin.
The dead silence un-nerves you. Until you hear a scream from another crazy inmate at Belle Reve. You prefer the empty hush to their wild ravings and mad gibberish.

Silence is best. Lex must keep quiet. He must remain silent. He has swallowed Clark’s secret into his belly, and it will fly and escape into his father’s hands once he opens his mouth. He has to keep Clark safe. The knowledge of Clark’s secret keeps him warm in the freezing cold of Belle Reve.

You can’t sleep.

Lex has to keep awake. Clark is coming to save him.

Went back and did a little more editing:

Obsidian

Clark sat quietly, hands on his knees. The only way he had to know that night had fallen was the coolness of the breeze coming in through the window as it kissed his cheek. His parents had been out to check on him, so many times. It just felt safer here, alone in the dark. Some part of his brain laughed at that thought. Everything was darkness now and nothing really felt safe.

A creak on the stairs forced his head up, his heart racing as it did at every unexpected sound now. "Mom?"

"No, Clark, it's me."

The pulse pounding in his throat, raced faster at hearing the soft tones. "L..Lex? I can't… I can't see you…" Clark couldn't prevent his start at the warm hand on his shoulder. In his panic he hadn't heard Lex moving closer.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…"

If Clark's hand moved a little too quickly to cover Lex's he didn't care. He wanted, no, he needed, the comfort that tentative touch could bring. "No, Lex, it's okay. It just startled me a little. I'm glad you're here."

He felt the dip in the couch as Lex settled beside him, his hand shifting from his shoulder to lightly rest on his arm. The warmth from his fingers felt good, even with the cool, silky slide of the fabric of his shirt where it touched Clark's skin. Clark had been so cold since it'd happened. Nothing had helped, until now. Just having Lex sitting next to him seemed to kill some of the panic that had been choking him all day.

"I would have been here sooner but no one called me."

He heard the hurt in Lex's voice as Clark turned his head, his eyes unconsciously searching for the face he knew so well. "I'm sorry, Lex. It's just, everything's happened so fast. I kept hoping that it'd just go away." Clark drew a trembling breath. "God, Lex… What if… what if it never comes back?" A hard shudder ran through him, his hands clutching in his lap.

"I promise you, Clark, we'll figure this out, fix it somehow. No matter what it takes, you have my word."

Clark felt strong arms circling him, drawing him near. He buried his head against Lex's shoulder, unable to suppress a ragged gasp as tears he'd fought all day finally broke free. Lex just sat there, holding him close as Clark cried.

Exhausted finally, he drifted, Lex his only tether as he held a world Clark wasn't ready to face yet at bay. Too tired to even lift his head his eyelids slowly drifted closed.

"I'll always keep you safe, Clark. Always. Even Guardian Angels need a little help sometimes."

Clark wasn't sure if he dreamed the soft touch of Lex's lips at his temple. Gentle fingers traced slow, soothing circles on his back, his quiet words following him deeper into the darkness. Clark sighed, surrendering. With Lex here somehow it didn't seem so frightening anymore.

"Never say Never"

Jonathan Kent had warned Clark so many times that people would try to use him for their own ends if they ever found out about his powers. And yet, when Pete had accidentally learned the truth, Jonathan had welcomed Pete "into the family" with open arms, despite Pete's immediate avaricious notions about fame and fortune.

Jonathan harbored deep and abiding suspicions about Lex, no matter what Lex did to protect the Kent family. Lex killed a man to prevent Jonathan from having blood on his hands when Clark was threatened. Lex even suffered the indignity of an asylum and never revealed a word about what he'd seen Clark do.

Pete's foray into street racing had proven one thing. Jonathan Kent had been wrong about who would betray Clark.

Lex would never to ask Clark to steal from a friend.

Lex would never ask Clark to lie to a friend.

Lex would never blackmail Clark.

Lex would never put Clark in a situation that caused another person's death.

And even when used, Lex would continue to protect Clark.

As Clark walked away from Pete, Clark wished that he had some way of taking Pete's memories the way Lionel had taken Lex's.

Today’s not that day.”

Clark folded Chloe to his chest with a grin, relieved that all was well once again.

“Clark. Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but there’s one more thing you need to know. Maybe you can help.”

***

It was dark by the time Clark arrived at the mansion. No lights in the library except for the blaze on the hearth.

“Whoever it is, go away,” Silhouetted, Lex stared into the fire without turning around. Clark smiled sadly; his heart twisted with tenderness as he stepped closer through the gloom.

“Lex,” Lex turned at the sound of his voice, appearing for a brief moment more vulnerable than Clark had ever seen him before the customary cool mask was back in place.

“Clark,” Lex began again. “If I’d known it was you…”

Clark waved a hand in dismissal as he moved to Lex’s side. “I’m sorry it took me so long to come clean with you about what happened with Chloe at the plant. I just didn’t want her to get hurt. She’s suffered a lot already, and--”

Lex glanced in his direction but didn’t meet his eyes. “Do you really think I’d have let her get hurt?” The flicker of shadows masked Lex’s expression but Clark caught the tension in his voice.

“She didn’t mean to get so pushy, honest. Please forgive her. I have.”

“I’m not angry,” Lex sighed with resignation as he reached for the poker and stirred the ashes. “It’s not worth it.”

“Lex.” Clark reached to cover the hand that held the poker with his own, giving it a brief squeeze before grasping the utensil and setting back down on the hearthstones.
“I hope you still won’t be angry when I tell you that she told me what you said to her when she--.”

He broke off as Lex turned abruptly away, suffering through a long silence before Lex whistled, low under his breath. “She had power, that’s for sure.” Lex looked away again toward the window and the darkness outside.

Clark grasped Lex's chin between his thumb and forefinger and turned Lex's face back toward his. “Maybe you’ll never be able to get your dad to say he loves you,” he murmured. “But I do. If that helps at all.”

Then, encouraged by the moist warmth of Lex’s expression at his words, he leaned in for a kiss.

Lex never used to believe in fairy-tales.

He believes now. He believes a man can die and live again - he has. He believes that ancient myths come true - he's seen them. He believes in good and evil and heaven and hell because he's been good and he's been evil and he's been to heaven and he's been to hell.

It's happy ever after that he still can't believe in.

When he was little, his mother read him a fairy-tale every night, exciting tales of dashing knights and beautiful princesses and brave little boys who'd been in terrible accidents. She used to make him laugh when she acted out all the voices from princesses to old woodcutters, and he would sigh in mock horror at the fearful battles the heroes fought. Sometimes she'd make up her own stories: they were his favorites. She'd tell him tales of a handsome young boy living on a ranch in Montana, simple stories but always happy ones. And all the stories ended the same way, whether she was reading from one of his books or making up her own stories. They all lived happily ever after.

Her voice would always hitch when she came to they lived happily ever after, and sometimes he thought he saw a tear in the corner of her eye.

She didn't have a happy ever after. Neither did Julian.

Lex thinks his life would make a good fairy tale.

He just doesn't know how it will end.

Well, "drabble" isn't the right word for this, but once I got going I just couldn't stop. *g*

***

It soon becomes clear that Clark's their plaything for as long as they want him, no chance of escape. The only thing he can hope is that no one else will happen along, get caught up in their witches' games. When he hears the car in the driveway, he closes his eyes and prays that at least it won't be Lex. Isobel has already taken his strength, and Lex is too much his weakness.

His heart sinks when he hears the familiar voice call out. Isobel holds a finger to her mouth, and Clark goes mute, can't warn him. Lex steps into the barn, hands still bandaged from the last run-in, and freezes when he sees the three women.

"Lana?" he says uncertainly. Then notices Clark sprawled on the ground, his chest covered in blood. "God."

He takes a step toward him, but Isobel stops him with an outspread palm and a malevolent smile. "How nice. Another toy."

With a wave of her hand, Lex's clothes fly off him, and so do Clark's. She nods her head, and Lex stumbles, pitches forward and lands on Clark.

"No," Lex says, his face grim as he tries to resist. But Isobel snaps her fingers, and he leans down, gives Clark a wet, open-mouthed kiss. "I can't stop," he says helplessly.

"I know," Clark says, as his own hand is forced onto Lex's back and down over his bare hip. "Neither can I."

Isobel laughs as she maneuvers them like dolls, bends their heads, Clark to Lex's groin, Lex to Clark's. Salt on his tongue, impossible heat on his cock, and Clark closes his eyes tight, tries not to think that it's Lana's knowledge, her jealousy, that's causing this. If it's Lex you want, then why don't you just go to him! she'd once yelled during one of their fights. Clark had denied it, of course. Just not convincingly enough.

It seems Isobel can't be content until she's thoroughly humiliated them. She pushes Lex onto his back, makes him hold his legs apart, forces Clark between his thighs, head bowed, using his tongue.

"Don't make him do this," Lex begs, but Isobel only laughs.

For the finale, she moves Lex onto his hands and knees, with Clark kneeling behind him. "I'm sorry," Clark whispers.

Then his hips lurch forward against his will, and Lex cries out. Clark clenches his hands into fists, tries not to think how tight Lex is, how hot inside. Tries not to think about the nights he did this in Metropolis, always with some convenient look-alike.

The barn echoes softly with the sounds of their fucking and murmured appreciation from the women.

"Mmmm," Briana says, pulling Madeleine close for a kiss.

Isobel slips a hand into her own blouse, playing with her breast as she watches. "Yes, Clark. Just like that."

Helpless rage burns in the pit of Clark's stomach, and then it occurs to him that there is one small rebellion he has left. He slides his hand over Lex's belly, to his cock, caressing of his own volition, trying to make it feel good.

"Clark," Lex moans, pushing back onto his cock, into his hand, understanding, joining in.

When Lex comes, his whole body jerks violently. Clark squeezes his eyes shut, and then he is coming, too.

"Very nice," Isobel says, with a mocking laugh, and releases them.

They collapse to the ground, and Clark uses his body to shield Lex, protect him at last from their gawking.

Isobel tosses her hair over her shoulder and smiles, a gesture Clark has seen often on Lana, although never like this, never so malignant. "Don't say I never gave you anything, Clark."

Her laughter flutters over them, even after she's gone.

Two scenes that never happened.
***
"Just tell me you didn't do it."

Lex stopped dead in the middle room, muscles tightening in his stomach, throat closing.

He was really, really trying not to laugh.

"You want me to tell you I didn't do it?" He was sure there was no amusement whatsoever in his tone, but Clark was looking at him warily. Possibly because his mouth was twitching in the effort not to smile. He cleared his throat. "You really think I could do something like that?"

Clark opened his mouth. It might have been to say, 'no, of course not, I don't know what I was thinking.' Or perhaps, 'I'm sorry, Lex, what can I do to help?' But it was probably, 'I've seen you kill before.'

Right. Because shooting a man in the back for trying to eviscerate your best friend's father is really bad form.

Lex held up a hand to stop him. Shook his head. "If you honestly think I could fuck a woman," he was walking forward again, "tie her to the bed," Clark shifted nervously on his feet but didn't back away, "cut her throat, gleefully splattering her blood over the bed and myself," Clark was swallowing hard, eyes darting over Lex's face, "and then fall into a peaceful slumber as I wait patiently for the housemaid to scream bloody murder," he was stopped now, just inside Clark's personal space, looking up at the boy he so desperately wanted to be different. "Then you really don't know me at all."

"Lex-"

"When I plan a murder, trust me," voice low and intense, "the evidence will never be found."

Hazel eyes widened, mouth opened to speak.

Lex brushed past him through the doorway. "I believe you know the way out."

"When I think of what you did to those women…" Clark's voice trailed off and Lex turned quickly away trying to hide his snicker. "Lex?"

Oh hell, Clark's voice was accusing. Lex smoothed his expression and looked over at Clark. His expression was so reproachful; Lex had to swallow quickly to keep the laughter down, but couldn't keep the amusement out of his voice. "Jesus, Clark, I fucked them, I didn't defile them." Clark looked at him with horror but Lex continued. "They knew what they were getting into, I didn't promise them undying love or marriage, I promised them sex and a good time. That's all they were looking for: bag a billionaire, mark it on a scorecard. If I was a good lay it was a bonus. They weren't looking for forever and neither was I. I gave them what we both wanted and then I gave them something to remember me by. It was nothing more than that. Brenda? She was a nutjob. Do I wish I hadn't met her? Yes. Do I wish she hadn't killed those people? Yes. Does that make me responsible? Not for a fucking thing.

"And as for my Oedipal Complex that you and your new best friend think I have...yes, I want to destroy my father, just like he taught me to do, but that doesn't mean I ever wanted to fuck my mother. I," he said with flourish, "am a pederast." He made a slight bow and then turned to walk out of the barn. "Don't worry though," he said over his shoulder, "I think you've cured me."
