Clark had tried the subtle approach. He'd worn his really faded jeans, the ones that hugged his butt and always made Lex look twice. He'd stood in the good light, where Lex could admire him. He'd asked if it was hot in there, which according to every sitcom ever written was supposed to be secret code for: Shouldn't we be having sex now? He'd even half draped himself over Lex's chair, looking over his shoulder, pretending to care about whatever he was working on. He'd done everything short of ripping his clothes off, and Lex still refused to look up from his report.

"I have a really tight deadline, and I can't afford to let you distract me," he said, not even pausing his frantic typing.

"But I want you."

"And I want you. Just after I finish this."

Yeah, right, Clark thought. It was always after this report, after this meeting, after we fight off this meteor mutant who's threatening to kill us and all of Smallville. Clark was tired of always being put off until later. He wanted to fuck Lex now.

And he wasn't afraid to play his trump card. "You do realize it's Roses' birthday today?"

Lex's typing fingers came to a sudden halt. "You're sure?"

Clark nodded. "And you know how much she loves us."

"Yes, yes, I do."

"And you know what she wants for her birthday."

Lex laughed. "I can imagine."

Clark leaned against Lex's desk, letting his thigh brush Lex's arm. "You don't want to disappoint her, do you?"

Lex's eyes got darker, hotter. "Never." He pulled Clark into his lap for a sizzling kiss. "Do you know what she likes in particular?"

"No. I guess we'll just have to do everything to make sure we cover all our bases." He grinned wickedly.

Lex's lips quirked. "It is for a good cause, after all." He started to unbutton Clark's shirt.

"The best," Clark agreed.

They spent the rest of the afternoon enthusiastically working on Roses' present, and both Clark and Lex hoped she had the happiest birthday ever!
