Big poll of bannish enthusiasm! (Plus bonus non-bandom question)

I've been curious about what people's bannish preferences are, and it's Friday, and I thought: Hey, why not a poll? For my friends who are muttering "dear God, here we go about bandom again," I have a special question just for you. :)

Also, I wanted to thank [livejournal.com profile] sanami276 for the icon I'm using. It's lovely and it makes me happy and thank you!

[Poll #1271834]

Thanks so much for the rec! I'll definitely check it out. I've been watching interviews of MCR, and they have totally charmed me. I'm going to have to branch out in the my fan fic reading.

It's frighting how charming they all are. If you ever have the time you should watch: Life on the murder scene. It's hosted somewhere on youtube, and it's the first dvd of My chem. It's a great source for their backstory (which is IMO amazing).

Once you get sucked into bandom the hits just keep coming ;).

you are an evil evil hoar who made me chose between patrick stump and gerard way in 'there can be only one'. how could you do that! do you really want to make gerard cry?! you big meanie!

haha um in other news, pete/patrick are the ultimate otp because they are just so adorable and patrick stump makes the world brighter with his voice and they cannot stop proclaiming how awesome the other one is to the entire world ♥

and because they are the awesome otp it makes me happy when i read anything with them. all of the above should have been an option in the second to last question because as long as they are ridiculously in love and being themselves (i.e. dorks!) i will adore that story.

honestly, i found this poll very hard because the thing i love most about bandom is that you dont have to chose and all pairings are love e.g. runners-up for otp include gerard/frank and ryan/spencer (though i think for sure panic gsf should have been an option). its what makes bandom so much fun for me :D

btw you didnt tell us what your answers would have been to the questions. im very curious

Here are my favorite GSF fics (http://delicious.com/twigged/gsf+fic.faves), and my favorite Spencer/Brendon fics (http://delicious.com/twigged/brendon%2Fspencer+fic.faves). You're totally missing out!

*g* you missed off empires! Which is kind of a good thing, actually, because all my poll answers would be empires-based so I don't have to go through the angst of picking my absolute favourites. And speaking of empires (I could do it all day but I won't) if you haven't heard them before their album Howl is available completely free to download at weareempires.com. /pimping

I'm sorry, I can't pick a Panic pairing to save my life so it's got to be GSF all the way (my life, so hard!) but my major bandom OTP this week is Gabe/William. It's very hard not to tinhat a pairing for which there are actual pictures of kissing and eating chocolate out of belly buttons and holding up of signs that say 'I love Gabe/Bill'...

Also if you're after reading material, there's a ton of manifestoes and recs over at bandom_ships, and they cover all sorts of pairings including gsf (especially panic gsf, loooots of recs :D)

I answered with respect to what my current preferred reading is i.e. PATD but I pretty much equally love MCR and FOB.

Fave Panic pairing: any combination of Spencer, Brendon and Jon. I really don't have a OTP in bandom - there are so many pairings I love to read (Frank/Bob, Frank/Gerard, Spencer/Bob, Frank/Patrick, Patrick/Mikey etc etc etc. Oh and I am starting reading Cab fic now too!)

Dude bandom, seriously? I feel the world is coming to an end...
Eh. But you made me LOL with raising vegan children.

Hee! I like to create these polls that force people to make Solomon-like decisions. I'm totally MEAN!

I did fill out the poll. I picked FOB and MCR for #1. FOB for #2. I left #3 blank, because probably my answer is Patrick, but the thought of Patrick without Pete made me too sad to actually click on the radio button. Pete/Patrick is definitely my OTP. And besmirching is my total kink, so I picked "somebody is older and somebody is younger and somebody loses some kind of virginity" for my favorite story type.

I've had so much fun with this poll. And learned a lot! I would never leave Panic GSF off a poll ever again! *bg*

Thanks so much for turning me onto Empires! I downloaded their free album, and I've really been enjoying the music. And thanks too for reminding me about bandom_ships. I want to do much, much more researching! :)

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That really is the beautiful thing about bandom. There are so many possibilities! And it's all so pretty! :)

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I know, Anita, I know! I never would have expected it. But they're so cute! And the fandom is full of good stories. I posted a ton of recs if you want to join me in my bannish glee. *smiles temptingly*

[identity profile] missmollyetc.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The Matches are adorable, like if Fall Out Boy had never gotten all that big, and Patrick was the drummer and Pete was a cross-dresser.

Also! There can never be enough Gerard/Bob! NEVER.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, thanks for turning me onto The Matches. I listened to some of their music today, and I like it a lot.

...and Pete was a cross-dresser.

So not hard to imagine! *g*

Hey, thanks for turning me onto The Matches.

::grins:: No problem! I'm always happy when I can point people to new music. If you want to know a little bit more about them, they created this documentary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35Y5Xm3ElXQ) about the band, before their bassist left (and has since been replaced).

There's also this part that was left out of the final print, where Shawn conducts an interview in a dress (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkyE0RjBob0)

...and Pete was a cross-dresser.

So not hard to imagine! *g*

I put nothing past him! OMG! Have you seen the Jason interview yet? Comedy gold.

Hee. And well, one of the things I like best about bandom is the sheer variety involved. :)

The Dresden Dolls are one of my favorite bands; I first saw them at a science fiction convention in 2004 and promptly fell in love. I still like their first studio album best, though the subsequent ones are certainly worth listening to. Their website provides a pretty good idea of their aesthetic ("Brechtian punk cabaret," in their words). And, amusingly enough, their hilarious video for Backstabber was actually the first time I'd ever heard of Panic (it was shot while they were opening for Panic, and features the bands trying to murder each other). I spent awhile convinced that Panic! At the Disco couldn't possibly be an actual band because the name just seemed too ridiculous to be a real. Obviously, I was wrong.

Pining is the bestest kind of fic, obviously.

Everyone already chimed in with Panic GSF, so I'll just say how very much I love a fandom where the default ship is puppypile.

And I'm also fannish about Brand New/Taking Back Sunday/Straylight Run, because there is hilarious and public drama complete with bitter t-shirt making, and The All-American Rejects, because they're like the one good not-country band to come out of my state, like, ever and because Tyson Ritter is very very pretty and claims to have been married to his guitarist since he was seventeen.

[identity profile] tehomet.livejournal.com 2008-10-11 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so dyslexic I thought GSF was short for Scouting For Girls. *rolls eyes at self*

But anyway!

I love that you're in bandom now because I've just stumbled into it too and I fecking love eeeeet! :) It's so juicy.

Thank you very much for the recs you've been posting. I'm reading my way through them at the moment. Were it not for you, I would not have discovered the wonders of [livejournal.com profile] linzeestyle, for example.

My OTPs are Pete/Patrick and Gerard/Frank because, although I'll read almost anything, I love the burning hotness emotional dynamics of those pairings. I guess the other band members are too well adjusted to be all that interesting to me, cute as they are. :)

Is it my imagination or is P!ATD fic mostly comedy or fluff while the darker trauma epics tend to be the 'older' bands such as My Chem and FOB? Not that there's anything wrong with comedy/fluff/etc.

I really wish the music wasn't so good, too. I read a bit of popslash back in the day but due to liking only one or two songs, it never obsessed me the bandom does.
