Change of Plans: Friends Locking

I've always liked having an open journal. The problem is that I read it at work, a lot, and there have been too many times lately when people have materialized at my desk, reading over my shoulder before I even realized they were there. This includes my boss. Half the office could know my LJ name by now. So, finally, I've come to the decision that it would be foolhardy of me not to lock my journal. The idea that my co-workers might be reading it is just too-- *shudder*

If you're already on my friends list, you'll stay there. If you're not and want to be, just add me. As long as I'm relatively certain you're not my mother, my boss or John Ashcroft, I'll add you back. *g*

If you don't already have an LJ, it's easy (and free!) to get one. Just go to the main Live Journal page and follow the appropriate links. You can always treat yours as a read-only journal if the idea of nattering on about yourself the way I do isn't that appealing to you. :D

I'm also going to make a more concerted effort to keep my website better updated with all the fiction I post to my journal. And I'll continue to archive non-snippet stuff at SSA.

So that's my story. I regret the people I may never get to know because I've gone into lockdown mode, but I need the peace of mind. I hope anyone who's been lurking will stick around. You're certainly welcome.

Unless I work with you, that is. *g*

I would very much dislike if my coworkers (or horror) my students read my LJ even though I hardly post anything controversial or very personal (yet). Since I live and work in Germany I just trust that no-one I know will stumble upon it, but otherwise, yeah, I would friends-lock it in a minute.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely not a good feeling. I like having my journal open to other fans, but co-workers are a different matter entirely!

Hi!

[identity profile] maladroitoracle.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
I added you to my friends list. I've lurked here since forever and I'd like to continue to do so. :)

Nice to meet you! I just friended you back. :)

I don't believe I work with you..

[identity profile] melzieluvsdon.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So may I friend you ??
I really enjoy your stories and would hate to miss out.

Thanks in Advance,

Okay then. As long as we don't work together... *g*

I just friended you back. Nice to meet you!

[identity profile] msmer.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Pressing the 'add' button now. I'm also another lurker that would miss reading you regularly. (And neither co-worker or family member! Just a fan of your writing and ideas.)

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, if you like my ideas, then I know you're not John Ashcroft! *g*

I just friended you back. Welcome!

[identity profile] emrinalexander.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still hanging on to an open journal, but I think I'll probably go this route eventually. Can't imagine my born again, evangelical coworkers reading my stuff *G*.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
My co-workers aren't even born again Christians, and I shudder at the thought of them reading my LJ! *g*

I'll miss having an open journal, but hopefully the peace of mind I get from locking it will more than make up for it.

[identity profile] ixquic.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hola,

I guess my days of anonymous lurking are over ;)

I'd hate to miss your stories (I haven't lost hope on seeing SlaveLex continued), May I friend you?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I just friended you back. Welcome!

oh my

[identity profile] astrea9562.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hon, I am so sorry you're going through this. I know, theoretically, that at work we should work, but our sanity is sometimes only achieved and regained and the day gotten through based on our being on LJ.

Ironically, the time I've spent on LJ at work usually made me more productive as it cut down on the time I wanted to kill the people around me.

Getting employed to be in that position again is the goal - only hopefully, y'know, without the desire to kill the people around me. *g*

I'm so glad we're friended and will continue to be so.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Astrea! I appreciate it. Nothing really bad has happened. I just have an uneasy feeling and figure it's better to take preventative measures than have to deal with something later on.

I think taking time out for LJ is necessary at work, as well. My job is to have ideas, and you can't work at that like it's an assembly line and you're punching a time card. You have to give your poor brain an occasional breather! *g*

I'm glad we're friended too, doll! And I appreciate the concern. *hugs back*

I can assure you that as far as I'm aware, I do not have any offspring, yet, so I don't think I can be your mum. I also do not work or live anywhere near NYC, so I think we can pretty much scratch the co-worker theory, too. What I am is just 'nother lurker who quite often very much entertained/falling in love/in awe with your stories/entries. In case you haven't work it out yet, this is me being eloquent and trying to woo you to be my friend. So, miss Lenore, may I formally ask your name to be added to my read only LJ Flist, please?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm wooed! I'm very wooed! *g*

It's really nice to hear you've been enjoying my stories and feel free to friend away. Welcome to my friends list!

Add me!

[identity profile] paminateller.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I lurk here all the time, I would miss you so much . I don“t live anywhere near USA, so you don't have to worry.

Re: Add me!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! That sounds safe then. I just friended you back.

[identity profile] raincitygirl.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I certainly understand. I routinely friends-lock anything personal, and anything identifying (i.e. anything I've talked about at work, even if it's not actually terribly personal). I also don't ever access LJ at work. Part of it is because we're not supposed to play on the net at work, but part of it is also because even during my lunch hour when I could play on the net without any criticism, I'm nervous about somebody coming up behind me while I'm reading LJ or writing an LJ entry and I want to keep my private life separate from my work life as much as possible.

So I completely understand. But I hope I'm on the list, because I love your snippets, and your other entries.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You have the right idea about not reading LJ at work. It really isn't a good policy.

*hugs* Of course you're on my friends list. And I appreciate all the lovely feedback you've sent me, even on the dirty stuff. *g*

[identity profile] aesvir.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been lurking for a long time, too afraid to friend because my parents DO read my journal. (Worse, they read all my friends' journals too.) Well, I'm afraid no more. :)

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2004-05-22 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That shouldn't be a problem since my journal is friends locked. They can't access it, not even on your friends list, unless they're actually logged in as you. They don't do that, do they?

Can I friend you? I've also been lurking here forever and cannot go without my Lenore fic!

P.S. This is not your mother, your boss, or any of your co-workers. I know this one for a fact. Because, you know, I'm a student and haven't got a job yet for the summer.

But I might be John Ashcroft. *bg*
