VM Drabble Challenge: My contribution

So [livejournal.com profile] fairy_tale_echo and I have issued a VM drabble challenge for today. You can read about it here.

This is my answer to the challenge (spoilers for Weapon of Class Destruction):

Challenge: Write a 100 word drabble on what was going through Logan's head when he was driving to the motel.

This Time

His thoughts are the predictable ones.

Take Sherman. It's faster.

Why is that asshole in the passing lane?

Fear comes in the form of pictures, not words, movies playing in his head, the same old dreams he has every night, Lily by the pool, his mother at the railing of the bridge, and him. Coming to the rescue, but always just a little bit too late.

He can't pinpoint when Veronica became one of the women in his life, not that it's even important. He stomps impatiently on the gas. All that matters is getting there in time for once.

Oh, wow. I LOVE that. Shall pimp this tonight and come up with a little something, if I'm not overloaded on Onyx. *blissful*

Yay! Glad you liked this. And even gladder you're going to write for the challenge. Double yay! :)

Thanks, doll! Glad you liked it. VM is totally my new crack! *g*

Oh wow. He was *so* thinking this.

Poor Logan.

One of his scenes that most tore me up was when he was talking to the counselor about Lily's death, the way he blamed himself for not being there. And I also loved how he jumped to his mother's defense when his father was confronting her about the tabloid scandal. I figured this is what would be going through his head on the way to Veronica.

So glad you liked it!

I love how the introspection intercuts with the immediate thoughts of needing to get to the hotel in time.

Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. I figured he'd be practical and freaked out at the same time. Poor woobie!

[identity profile] fairy-tale-echo.livejournal.com 2005-04-14 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Exactly. She's there and he doesn't know what to do about it, but he's not going to have this happen again. Oh, the scene where he's telling the school counselor that if he had just BEEN there...

He can't pinpoint when Veronica became one of the women in his life, not that it's even important.

How I adore this line. I wish to marry it and live in a little house with it.

Thanks so much for playing and pimping this little drabble-game. You're the bestest! :D

Thanks so much, doll! Glad you liked this. I was definitely thinking of that scene in the counselor's office when I wrote it. And the way Logan jumped to his mother's defense, that last time he ever saw her. Protecting his women does seem to be something that's important to him.

I had the best time with this, and I'm so thrilled at all the people who turned out to drabble. I really was thinking of setting up a VM drabble community to keep the drabble momentum going and asking you if you'd like to co-mod, but maybe that's rude since there is one already? What do you think?

[identity profile] keewick.livejournal.com 2005-04-14 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Love the drabble, esp. this bit 'Fear comes in the form of pictures, not words, movies playing in his head' simply because I can really identify with that. Most of my strongest emotions are inwardly expressed in the form of flashes - semi-formed pictures/dreams/colors instead of linear thoughts.

Anyway, great job, and thanks for rounding up VM fen for this fun challenge. :D

So glad you liked it! I have that experience too with strong feelings, especially fear. It's always wordless.

I'm so thrilled so many people answered the challenge. Thanks so much for participating!

*TACKLESMOOCHES YOU*

You! write more now!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2005-04-15 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*tacklesmooches Caro* So glad you liked it, doll! And I do hope to write more.

Also, you realize that you still have a little bit more than ten hours to add your own drabble to the challenge... *smiles encouragingly*

This was great. And I agree with the drabble's explaination of Logan's actions - I think he has tremendous guilt about not saving either Lilly or his mother...and I like that he's not sure when Veronica became a woman in his life.

Loved this drabble!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2005-04-15 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you liked it. I do love Logan's contradictions. Sometimes he can be so crude and cruel, but he can also be oddly chivalrous. I wanted to try to capture a little of that sense he has of being responsible for his women.
