Save the boy kissing!

As seen from [livejournal.com profile] suzvoy:

In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.

Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish), then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.

Please spread the word if you're so inclined. The fight for good has never been so simple! :)

ETA: Some people aren't getting the option to choose Spanish or English when they call. However I do when I call. So...I don't know why that is! *g* But you should listen to the prompts to make sure you're voting for the right thing.

Did it!

Twas ridiculously easy. Was it just my bias that thought the automated voice Disapproved of anyone who "felt strongly that the storyline should end"?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I really think the automated voice is with us! :)

Uh, that's not what I get when I call. Maybe it's different from Canada or outside of regular business hours?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. You know, it probably only works in the U.S. Let me add that caveat to my post. Sorry, doll!

[identity profile] lamardeuse.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's kind of weird, because when you call a phone number, it doesn't generally matter where you're calling from - I've had messages that say "this toll-free number is not accessible outside the US", but this was the standard after-business-hours message. Maybe you might want to wait to see if other people are having the same problem after 5 PM EST. I wouldn't want to dissuade any of us gay-marriage-lovin' Canadians from voting! *g*

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, good point! I definitely don't want to lose the gay-marriage-lovin' Canadian support! *g*

I tried the number again, just out of curiosity, and I'm still getting the same message as before, not an after-hours message. Hmm. Odd.

Okay, then it must be different from Canada! Wow, that's wacky - unless the same number routes you to different places depending on the country. :P

I would totally call if I was in the US. I love those two kissing. It's so darned hot! I shall post this on my LJ as support.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for spreading the word! We can't let the AFA take away our boy kissing!!

DONE!

[identity profile] alyburns.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU and will pass the info along!

Re: DONE!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Go team fangirls! :)

[identity profile] mkitty3.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I called even though I don't watch the soap and I'll repost this message in my journal.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] cloex-brosluvr.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Called.
I had started watching just because of the Luke/Noah story but stopped once I figured what they were doing by introducing Ameera but I called in honor of the boys.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't watched the show in a while. Is Ameera going to come between the boys? *sad*

[identity profile] cloex-brosluvr.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I've read, it seems like Noah and Ameera got married (so she can stay in the US).

That was so easy. :O

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I was surprised. Yay for easy activism. *g*

[identity profile] tenillypo.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Done!

(And you know, the only soap I watch is General Hospital, where apparently gay people don't exist - or are immediately shipped out of town after they're done with their coming out after school special - so anything that lends support for more GLTB stories on Daytime is good in my book.)

(okay weird...that last anon was me. no idea why, since I was logged in, but...)

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only watched a few episodes of Luke/Noah, but what I have seen is ADORABLE. I totally agree about anything that lends support for more GLBT storylines on daytime TV. Or, really, just TV in general.

[identity profile] suzvoy.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*BIG WET SMOOCHES*

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for letting us know about the poll. I always like to support boy kissing! :)

[identity profile] sirryluv.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you so much for letting us know! :D!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I love to see the power of fangirls in action!

[identity profile] spiletta42.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Called and voted. If this kind of thing isn't "appropriate" in soap operas than where would it be appropriate. Geez. Now when is this soap on?

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously! This is the stuff soap operas are made of. You know, I think times vary by local market, but the show comes on at two here.

[identity profile] them0rgue.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Voted!

However, I think there might be an issue with numbers you listed because I sort of tabbed through without listening first and I think ended up voting against something on MTV and BET (so I called back and voted for the appropriate thing). There wasn't really a "continue in English, press two for Spanish" option.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, people seem to get different experiences when they call. I've gotten the choose English or Spanish prompt every time. Oh, modern phone systems! *g*

[identity profile] terribilita.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Done! I didn't get the Spanish or English option but that was amazingly easy.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I love to see fangirls giving the American Family Association a run for their money!

[identity profile] nebt-het.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
It did mess me up the first time so I went to 5 other phones in the office and called in from all of them to continue the storyline. I don't even watch the show but the fact that this poll even exists makes me ill. Thanks for alerting people about it!

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for calling! And yeah, the poll makes me ill, too. How many times a day do het couples kiss on soap operas? It's just...well, you know.

[identity profile] layniek.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Called from my phone, my (very homophobic) parents' home phone, and my mother's cell, which she foolishly left unattended while she went for a walk. I may try to call from a couple phones at work tomorrow too (I assume the poll will still be open then?).

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I love to see fangirls taking action. And I assume the poll will be open tomorrow, although I don't know for sure.

1-800 numbers are routing numbers - it's probably going to multiple lines, or multiple trunks, hence multiple messages.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! That explains things. Thank you for clearing up the mystery!

[identity profile] bethynyc.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Done! And I don't even watch soaps! But I'm all for more boykissing on TV!

Oh, and Pandagon I think had a youtube clip of a Kiss in Question, which was pretty tame, in my opinion.

[identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've only seen the show a few times myself, but I too am for the boykissing, and any chance to mess with the American Family Association is always good.

[identity profile] hermionemalfoy.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"If you have concerns..."

XD XD Love how they're trying to be diplomatic there rather than call them out on being homophobic jerks.

It's odd, though, you'd think the options would have to be "if you are in support" vs "if you are not in support" for it to be an unbiased study.

[identity profile] vertigo66.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for the boy kissing!!!!

[identity profile] linzeestyle.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't watch soap operas but I remember reading about fans expressing concerns that this couple wasn't getting screentime in the way the straight couples were, and it bothers me that the option of "concerns" is even up for discussion. Voted, and will pass on in my journal.
