1. Losing an hour is HARD. I miss that hour. A lot. I know I'll be glad this evening when it's seven o'clock and still light out. But right now, I'm all: give me my damned hour back.

2. I had brunch with my friend and her daughter, and that was very nice. Walked home in 60 degree weather. Yay spring!

3. You know what I really want to see on my TV? A crossover episode thingy with Criminal Minds and The Mentalist, wherein the team from CM gets called in by a local jurisdiction on the Red John case, and Patrick Jayne shows up, all this is my case and I'm going to be the one to solve it. Can you imagine the CM team and how they'd react to Patrick Jayne? It would be awesome! And then, of course, the storyline would continue on The Mentalist, and maybe they'd catch Red John, but probably they wouldn't this time around, and then they could work together again, and there could be another crossover episode thingy again in the future. For the win!

4. Watched tons of baseball yesterday, and I know you'll all be shocked to hear it, but I STILL LOVE DEREK JETER. You know, just in case you were wondering.

5. This morning, I read, oh my God, this super, super satisfying Pete/Patrick romance novel Victorian AU in space story, wherein (that's my word for the day, by the way!) Pete is a rich, but rather shady gentleman and Patrick becomes his kept man to save his brother from gambling debts. Kept man! That's right below besmirching on the big list of things Lenore can't resist. I don't know how I didn't find this story sooner.

6. I'm excited that the The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is going to be a show on HBO. I adore the books, and I hope I like the series, as well. Also, looking forward to Nathan Fillion in Castle. And some slashy goodness modern day biblical style in Kings.

7. MOST IMPORTANTLY! Thank you to my darling [livejournal.com profile] anitac588 for the daisy for my profile page. That was so sweet of you. And happy International Women's Day to my dear ladies on my flist and everyone who stops by to visit. You are all awesome, and I'm so happy to know you.
scribblinlenore: (Hope: The Obamas)
Okay, so I was as excited as the next person on Inauguration Day. I watched the swearing in with the rest of my company in the conference room, and followed coverage on my computer the rest of the day, and caught some of the Inaugural balls last night. But just now, on Countdown, I saw a picture of Obama sitting at his desk in the Oval Office, on the phone, with his shirtsleeves rolled up. And my heart did this thing in my chest, and I suddenly had tears in my eyes, because it's really real: PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!

YAY!!!!

Also, as an aside, I love how much Barack and Michelle love each other. It is so beautiful.

That sums up my Sunday.

Of the productivity:
I successfully replaced the hard drive on my laptop. With my own two hands and everything! Okay, okay, I had recovery disks to work with, so I didn't, you know, actually have to UNDERSTAND anything. But I touched my computer's insides and nothing exploded and there was no blue screen of death, so go me.

Of the dirty bandom thoughts:
I started writing some dirty, dirty porn with Pete wearing a skirt, because sometimes it's just that put-Pete-in-a-skirt time in your fan fic writing career.

Also I had this really, really dirty dream which I then spun into an idea for porn. Patrick is a massage therapist and Pete is...maybe still a rock star? I don't know. Anyway he's Patrick's customer, who's a little pervy, because there's always at least one customer who is, but it's kind of okay in this case, because he brings out the perv in Patrick, and the touching gets more and more inappropriate every time Pete comes for a massage until finally they're not even bothering with the pretense. The one image I clearly remember from my dream is Pete's back, all slick with oil, and Patrick's hands moving slowly, firmly up the line of his spine. Then I started imagining that every time Pete turns from his stomach onto his back he takes the opportunity to flash Patrick, no matter how determinedly Patrick tries to hold up the towel to give him some privacy. Because, you know...Pete. And then of course, there's music playing in the room, and Patrick just kind of forgets himself one day and starts to hum. And Pete loves his voice and after that always makes him sing to him while he's massaging him. And that just ratchets up the dirty BIG TIME.

You know, Bandom boys are like John and Rodney in that you can imagine them in a million billion AU scenarios. I like that in a fandom!

Just walked home from an election party at a local bar that I went to with some fangirl friends, and I was going to take a car, but I couldn't get one, and I'M SO GLAD! They are literally dancing in the streets in Brooklyn, and I got to be a part of that. And I got to spend election night with a big crowd of people who were all hoping for the same thing, cheering their lungs out. And I was so thrilled that my home state of Virginia voted for Obama. And we won, we won, we won, we won, we won!!!!!

I know the hard work is just beginning, but for now, I want to savor this moment.

Dudes, the old people who run the elections at my precinct had that thing working like a well-oiled machine. I saw half the people who live on my block there. And coming home, I passed all these houses with Obama/Biden signs and American flags flying...and the occasional Irish flag, because, hey, they do love their heritage around here. :)

Okay, this format is seriously awkward, for both candidates, but especially for John McCain. When he has to listen to Obama answer? And he kind of stares into the camera with big, blinking eyes of doom? He looks absolutely batshit CRAAAAAZY.

I don't post about politics all that often, but today I got an email from the Human Rights Campaign with the alarming information that marriage equality is currently losing by five points in the polls in California, due in large part to heavy fund-raising efforts by anti-equality activists. HRC is asking for our help, and if you donate online today, your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar.

As someone who fervently believes that all the real-life John and Rodneys out there should be able to marry if they choose, I made a donation. If you feel the same way and if you can afford to, I hope you'll consider adding your support. They accept contributions starting at $5. You can get more information here:

Feel free to pass this on. And now back to our regularly scheduled rambling about TV and how cute Pete and Patrick are... :)

I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I had a lovely day, and you guys were a big part of that. Big hugs to you all!

As I told [livejournal.com profile] pun, it was as if the universe was celebrating with me on Friday. All day, the trains appeared the moment I stepped onto the platform. I was wearing pink, and that always puts me in a good mood. The weather was sparkling and perfect. I got out of work early. I went out to dinner with friends and had delicious Peruvian food and lots and lots of sangria. On Saturday, I kicked back. And then on Sunday, it was a fun day of fangirl baseball, and the Yankees finally got on board with the celebration by winning a game. Thanks, Yanks!

So, yeah, it was a good one. :)

There's a new gym that has opened across the street from my office, and it has apparently hired Derek Jeter to brandwhore for them. They have his (gorgeous!) face plastered everywhere. On signage outside. On posters inside. There's even a video of him playing on a big screen above the membership desk. I keep finding excuses to walk by and linger. I was pretty seriously considering joining, although just because it's so pretty and Jeterian inside doesn't necessarily mean I'd actually use it. But then, our HR person investigated a corporate membership, and even that was Manhattan gym expensive. Which is more than I want to pay.

Oh, well. At least I'll always have their signage! It makes me happy.

As seen from [livejournal.com profile] suzvoy:

In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, P&G is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion.

Just call 1-800-331-3774 and press #1 to continue in English (or #2 for Spanish), then 2 to get to the ATWT poll, then press 1 to continue the storyline.

Please spread the word if you're so inclined. The fight for good has never been so simple! :)

ETA: Some people aren't getting the option to choose Spanish or English when they call. However I do when I call. So...I don't know why that is! *g* But you should listen to the prompts to make sure you're voting for the right thing.

Yay!

My Christmas tree just came! And my house smells like pine. And...I need to vacuum up some pine needles. *g*

I had a fabulous birthday, in no small part because of my friends on LJ. You guys are the best! I have some pimpin' and some thank yous to offer.

1. The wonderful, wonderful [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc wrote me a hot, hot, oh boy, HOT SGA story, Special Favors. [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc asked me what I'd like, and I said something sexy with Teyla and whoever, and, hey, if there was a strap on, that would be good, too. And...she wrote it for me! And put Rodney in it! Because...she knows me well! *g* Go, read, share in the joy of my fabulous present.

2. Thank you again to [livejournal.com profile] hackthis for my Nathan/Peter story, wherever you go, the earth just opens up, which is hot, hot, and ooooooh, did I mention there's amnesia??? I was a VERY lucky birthday gal this year.

3. Kisses to [livejournal.com profile] tvm, [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, and [livejournal.com profile] burntsm0re for the cupcake, party hat and noisemaker on my user info page. When I found the notices in my email on the morning of my birthday, I was all: Awwwwwwwwwwwww!

4. Hugs to everyone who emailed me or sent a card or left a comment or posted a birthday wish on their LJ. I felt very loved!

You all made 41 one of my best birthdays yet! :)
