AO3 name: Lenore
Able to receive treats: Yes

ETA: I'll be visiting family for the holidays and may not be able to read and comment on my story right away, but I will just as soon as I can.

First, thank you so much for writing for me, dear Yuletide Author! I offered up some prompts in my signup in case that helps to inspire you, but please don’t feel constrained by that. Let your imagination run free!

Here are a few general notes about what I enjoy in stories:

I have a very broad range of enjoyment. I like slash (both dudes and ladies), het and gen, and I will happily read any rating. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people, whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! I appreciate angst in a story, especially if the source material really calls for it, but I also enjoy when a story ends on a hopeful note.

A few things I don’t want are: non-con and dub-con, as well as graphic violence and gore if they are out of keeping with the source material. I'd prefer not to receive a crossover or a totally non-canonical AU unless I note otherwise in the specific fandom details. However, I’m cool with canon-divergent AUs.

Title: Well Met By Moonlight
Fandom: Ghosts (BBC, 2019)
Rating: General Audiences
Word count: 6549
Main characters: Alison, Mary
Summary: A group of Wiccans holds their summer solstice celebration at Button House. Alison refuses to ask the paying guests to renounce Satan, and Mary discovers that witches can be a force for good.
Notes: Big thank you to Annabel for Britpicking this for me!

The story can also be read at AO3:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/35768878

For the most part—a solid 89% of the time—Alison didn’t regret the fall on the head that brought nine ghosts into her life, even if it did make everything more complicated. Then there were moments like this... )

Thank you for writing for me! I included specific notes about each fandom in my nomination, so here's a little bit about my general preferences.

In these dark days, I do find myself turning to some recurring themes in what I'm watching and reading, if any of these spark inspiration: the comfort of friendship (especially female friendship), found families, magic and fairy tales, personal transformation, nature and spiritual rejuvenation, finding the unexpected in yourself.

A few things I'm not really into are: non-con and dub-con, as well as graphic violence and gore if they are out of keeping with the source material. I'd prefer not to receive a crossover or a totally non-canonical AU. However, I’m cool with canon-divergence AUs.

Title: The living can't haunt you
Fandom: Thorne (TV)
Pairing: Phil Hendricks/Tom Thorne
Rating: Explicit
Word count: ~8,000
Summary: In the wake of personal and professional losses, Tom takes some time away. Phil follows.
Notes: I've been watching a lot of Britbox during my covid seclusion. Like, a lot. Within about 3 minutes of the first episode of this show, I was having feelings about these guys. A big, tall policeman with big dom energy toward everyone around him EXCEPT his shorter, smaller, tattooed, pierced gay pathologist best friend who routinely manhandles him? Yes, please! This is the first non-Yuletide story I've written in five years and the first thing I've posted to this journal that wasn't a Dear Author letter in just as long. I don't know if this means my writing mojo is back, but at least I enjoyed writing this bit of porn with feelings.
Warnings: Canonical character death and extremely problematic policing, which is also canonical

You can also read it at AO3:

It’s the kind of spring day that doesn’t come around very often. The sky towers overhead, deep indigo, dazzling to the eye, making Tom squint when he glances up.… )

For reasons, I was away and hectically busy for the first part of the Yuletide reveals, so the only stories I've read are the two I received. But if I were to read only two stories, these would definitely be the two to choose!

They are both Ginny/Mike Pitch stories, and they are both FABULOUS. Also, they both provide resolution to that almost-kiss from the series' last episode. How did I get so lucky? I don't know, but I'm very grateful.

Wave Me On Home by Anonymous, rated Mature, no archive warnings apply

This is a wonderful ensemble story that reads like an episode with lovely moments between Ginny and Al, Amelia, Blip, and of course Mike. It takes the potential heartbreak of off-season contract negotiations, looks at what that would be like for the first female MLB player, and also explores the limitations Ginny thinks she needs to put on her personal life in order to be professionally successful. The chemistry between Mike and Ginny is off the charts, and the reason why Mike never brought up that almost-kiss after it happened is a thing of joy that gets right at the heart of why I love these two characters and their relationship.

keep me going strong by Anonymous, rated Teen and Up Audiences, no archive warnings apply

Is there anything more hilarious than ballplayers and their superstitions? Maybe especially when they don't recognize or aren't willing to admit that they are, in fact, superstitious? Ginny bets Mike that he can't stop doing his "habits," and as you would expect, it does not go well. That Ginny notices all of these things about Mike--things he doesn't even realize himself--is super hot. And the way they resolve the bet (hint: it's win-win!) is extremely delightful.

Sorry to take so long to get this letter posted! If you've already started writing, wonderful, perfect, thank you. Please feel free to ignore any suggestions I make. I'm sure I'll love what you're doing!

Because I do have a very broad range of enjoyment when it comes to stories. I like slash (both dudes and ladies), het and gen. I'm into reading explicit sex if you're into writing it, but all ratings are good. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people, whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for writing for me! I'm very excited about all the fandoms I requested. You have great taste for offering one of them. :)

Here's some general stuff about my story preferences:

I have a very broad range of enjoyment when it comes to stories. I like slash (dudes and ladies), het and gen. I'm into reading explicit sex if you're into writing it, but all ratings are good. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people (or a group of people if the fandom is Sense8), whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! I appreciate angst in a story, especially if the source material really calls for it, but I also enjoy when a story ends on a hopeful note.

A few things I'm not really into are: Non-con (although I don't mind dub con), crossovers, and gore.

More details ahead... )

Of course, my suggestions are just that...suggestions. Write the story that speaks to you, and I'm sure it will speak to me too.

This primer is for [personal profile] no_detective who wanted to read some Sid/Geno stories. I linked her to the primers that got me into the fandom, especially this one by [personal profile] pun: Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin mini primer. But they are all several years old now, and I felt like there really needed to be an update.

As the title says, this is not remotely comprehensive, just a little window into the characters and pairing as of the now, and of course it's all my opinion. YMMV! Feel free to discuss in the comments.

Here we go… )

I can't say that I really make New Years resolutions, but I would like to take more of an active part in DW/LJ this year. So I thought I'd start with Yuletide.

This year I was very spoiled with two wonderful stories:

Zo (1172 words) by lalejandra
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Woman on the Edge of Time
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Original Character
Additional Tags: Depression, Time Travel, Pre-Canon
Summary: In Woman on the Edge of Time, the future seems so glorious, yet there are always people who fall into cracks. This takes place before the book starts.

If you haven't read this novel I really do recommend it. Marge Piercy creates a truly fascinating future world and explores issues of race, gender, environmentalism, etc. I've been requesting it as long as I've been doing Yuletide, and this year I got it at last. Yay! It's a very well done story that perfectly captures the universe while also questioning some of its assumptions.

Running Off to See (100 words) by rabidsamfan
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Margaret Dashwood
Additional Tags: Drabble, yumadrin
Summary: Margaret wants to know the whole wide world.

After rewatching this movie earlier this year, I really wanted Margaret to have her adventures. And in this story she does!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is far and away my favorite new show of the season (note to self: write more about that later), and I was very happy to be assigned it for Yuletide.

It's Ladies Night (and the Feeling's Right) (6984 words) by Lenore
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Rosa Diaz/Amy Santiago
Characters: Rosa Diaz, Amy Santiago, Jake Peralta, Ray Holt, Gina Linetti, Charles Boyle, Terry Jeffords, Scully (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Hitchcock (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
Additional Tags: Case Fic, Humor, Hypnotism, Kissing
Summary: There's a Hypnotist Bandit on the loose. Rosa and Amy take him down—but not without some misadventures.

I also did a pinch hit for the Hockey RPF Holiday Exchange which I'll post when I have more time. Happy New Year, everyone!

As seen on Tumblr...but I think it will be more to do here!

1) Give me a pairing.

2) Give me an AU setting.

3) I will write you a three-sentence fic.

My dear friend [personal profile] no_detective posted the link to this video that has become MY NEW FAVORITE THING.

Luscious Jackson - #1 Bum

I LOVE these women and their reactions, and I have had this very conversation with fangirls SO MANY TIMES. In fat, my Yankees friends and I have a hand gesture that's shorthand for: "Derek Jeter's ass is perfect." No words necessary. Message perfectly understood.

Now I really, REALLY need a hockey vid set to this song. Please?
scribblinlenore: (Haven: Nathan in the clouds)
Thanks to everyone who shared the TV shows they're looking forward to this fall! I think I've now sorted out my fall TV viewing.

Returning shows I'm really excited about:
-Elementary: my favorite show on TV right now
-Person of Internet: the end of last season left the story in a fascinating place, can't wait to see what happens next
-Haven: OT3! OT3!

Other returning shows I'll probably be watching:
-Castle: I love Nathan Fillion, but enough already with the OTT relationship drama
-Criminal Minds: This show jumped the shark for me last season, but a formulaic crime drama can be so weirdly soothing

Dear-God-why-can't-I-quit-you shows that maybe this year I will actually quit:
-Mentalist: F*ck you, just tell us who Red John is already, although I seriously don't know why I even care
-Supernatural: This show really should have ended several seasons ago, but I enjoyed this past season pretty well, so I probably won't quit it unless it's just too mired in Winchester misery

New shows I'm giving a shot:
-Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D: Big shock I know!
-Sleepy Hollow: HEADS. WILL. ROLL. This looks ridiculous in the most delightful way.
-The Blacklist: If this show didn't have James Spader in it I would probably pass, but it does, so.
-Reign: What can I say? I enjoy overwrought historical dramas.
-Dracula: I can't tell if this looks interesting or just pretentious, but I'm going to tune in and find out.

I found this fantastic Women's Hockey Primer put together by [personal profile] pineapplechild via Tumblr. If there is anything more awesome than women playing hockey I don't know what it is. Also, I may have fallen in love with the captain of the US women's team, Julie Chu, a little bit. Or, you know, kind of a lot.

I truly can't believe that September is almost here. Where did the summer go? No, no, really, where did 2013 go? I feel like I slept through it. But, hey, September does mean that Yuletide nominations are on the horizon. And this year...I have no idea what to nominate. Hm.

There is this vague memory I have of saying at least once or maybe more than that during the year...hey, I have to remember that for Yuletide! Oops. Relying on my memory is always a bad plan. I could ask for Ripper Street, because there is so very, very little fandom for it, and Captain Jackson is a sexy, unwashed scoundrel. Of course I do always nominate Woman On The Edge of Time, and I still haven't completely despaired of receiving it one day. I don't think hockey RPF is eligible? Or maybe it depends on the pairing. What else do I like? I can't think.

So what are you guys nominating?
scribblinlenore: (Girl Sleeping)
Here's part two of my Kaner/Tazer recs after much delay. Obviously I couldn't in good conscience recommend stories without rereading them first. Obviously. So there are actually many more K/T stories I've enjoyed, but given my somewhat slow-moving rec process, I think I'm going to leave it at this.

Kaner/Tazer recs, part two… )
