2022 Dear Yuletide Author Letter

scribblinlenoreFirst, thank you so much for writing for me! I offered up some prompts in my signup in case that helps to inspire you, but please don’t feel constrained by it. If you have an idea you’re excited about, go for it!
Here are a few general notes about what I enjoy in stories:
I have a very broad range of enjoyment. I like slash (both dudes and ladies), het and gen, and I will happily read any rating. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people, whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! I appreciate angst in a story, especially if the source material really calls for it, but I also enjoy when a story ends on a hopeful note.
A few things I'm not really into are: non-con and dub-con, as well as graphic violence and gore if they are out of keeping with the source material. I'd prefer not to receive a crossover or a totally non-canonical AU. However, I’m cool with canon-divergent AUs.
Ondine (2009)
Annie, Ondine, Syracuse
There are so many things I love about this movie: how Ondine and Syracuse are both so lost until they find each other, the charming and precocious Annie, the hopeful message that it's never too late to turn your life around and become a better version of yourself, the realistic portrayal of change as hard work, Syracuse, Ondine and Annie becoming a family, and of course the lovely fairytale quality of the story with the selkie lore threaded throughout.
I would love a story that focuses on the three of them as family. Maybe it's the first meal they take together or the day of Syracuse and Ondine's wedding or years in the future when they are sending Annie off to university or it's Annie's wedding day. It would be interesting to see how outsider Ondine fits into small-town life. Or it would be great to see an exploration of how all three lives change now that Annie has a second chance at health.
The one thing that wasn't completely satisfying to me about the film was the resolution to the delightful tension of, "could Ondine possibly actually be a selkie?" I would have loved that little niggle of doubt to remain. I would be thrilled beyond belief if you found a way to rethread selkie lore through their story.
For this fandom, I’d prefer not to receive porn. I’m more interested in the family dynamic.
Tennis RPF
Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer
Roger retiring from competitive tennis has brought all my Rafa-Roger feelings bubbling up. I definitely ship them, but if you don’t, no problem! I love their friendship and will happily read anything you write about them.
One of the things I adore about them is that they’re fierce rivals as well as fast friends. So, maybe the story is set after a match. Do they have some kind of ritual for when they play each other? Do they go out afterward? Stay in and watch movies? Does the winner tease the loser? Spend all night buying him drinks and telling him what a legend he is? Make it up to him in the bedroom? How do they segue from on-court competitors to off-court besties?
I also love it when they’re teammates. The most recent Laver Cup was obviously quite emotional. A story set around that event would be great, the bittersweetness of it being the last time, the two of them navigating all the media attention together, taking care of each in the moment. Or maybe it’s set in 2017, the first time they played doubles together, how it felt to win as a team.
Or maybe it’s all about their off-court relationship. Do they go on vacation together? Visit each other in Mallorca or Switzerland? Have regular Zoom hangouts? Text each other constantly? Take up golf or knitting or some other pastime together?
Perhaps, it’s set in the future, and Roger has come to watch Rafa play at the French Open. Or maybe it’s after they’re both retired, and they help each other figure out life after tennis.
If you’re up for a trope, then I think there are so many ways to go with these two. Maybe they have to share a bed while on tour, get snowed in while skiing, one of them has amnesia and misunderstands what kind of relationship they have, bodyswap before a match for the sheer hilarity, hurt/comfort in which Rafa comforts Roger after beating him in a match (because that has happened in actual life, I feel certain).
For this fandom, I’d enjoy porn, if you’d enjoy writing it.
DNW: Their wives are awesome, and I don’t enjoy adultery or divorce as a theme. So, if you write a shippy story, I’d prefer if it’s basically an AU in which they’re both single and have never been married. If it’s a friendship story, then I’m cool if you want to include mentions of or scenes with their families.
AITA: Am I the Asshole for Perpetuating Ethnic Stereotypes about Jorts (reddit)
Jorts, Jean
Jorts and Jean make me so happy! I would love to read more about them and their kitty friendship from their kitty POVs.
Maybe it’s about how they met, with Jean convincing Jorts to become an inside cat and then showing him the ropes of indoorsing. Or Jorts gets into some hijinks and it’s Jean to the rescue. Or Jorts shows his appreciation for Jean by sharing his favorite things with her, including his beloved pipe cleaner. Or maybe Jorts and Jean put their heads together to try to figure out the mysterious ways of humans.
I didn’t select Pam or OP, but if you want to throw them in, I’m cool with that.
Also, their work with organized labor is more a Twitter thing than AITA, but if you’re up on that and want to write the story of Jean and Jorts leading the revolution, then bring it on!
