2021 Dear Yuletide Author Letter

First, I'm SO sorry that this letter is so late. All the fandom-specific information was in my request, and these are just some general notes.
I have a very broad range of enjoyment when it comes to stories. I like slash (both dudes and ladies), het and gen, and I will happily read any rating. I love relationship stories that show the deepening sense of intimacy between two people, whether it's a romance or a friendship. I also adore plotty stories, casefiles, action/adventure, future fic, backstory, and my great love for fan fiction cliches never dies! I appreciate angst in a story, especially if the source material really calls for it, but I also enjoy when a story ends on a hopeful note.
A few things I'm not really into are: non-con and dub-con, as well as graphic violence and gore if they are out of keeping with the source material. I'd prefer not to receive a crossover or a totally non-canonical AU. However, I’m cool with canon-divergent AUs.
Ondine (2009)
Annie, Ondine, Syracuse
There are so many things I love about this movie: how Ondine and Syracuse are both so lost until they find each other, the charming and precocious Annie, the hopeful message that it's never too late to turn your life around and become a better version of yourself, the realistic portrayal of change as hard work, Syracuse, Ondine and Annie becoming a family, and of course the lovely fairytale quality of the story with the selkie lore threaded throughout.
I would love a story that focuses on the three of them as family. Maybe it's the first meal they take together or the day of Syracuse and Ondine's wedding or years in the future when they are sending Annie off to university or it's Annie's wedding day. It would be interesting to see how outsider Ondine fits into small-town life. Or it would be great to see an exploration of how all three lives change now that Annie has a second chance at health.
The one thing that wasn't completely satisfying to me about the film was the resolution to the delightful tension of, "could Ondine possibly actually be a selkie?" I would have loved that little niggle of doubt to remain. I would be thrilled beyond belief if you found a way to rethread selkie lore through their story.
The Gloaming (TV)
Alex O'Connell, Molly McGee
I'm so interested in the complicated relationship between these two complicated people as they wrestle with the losses of the past, all the while navigating supernatural forces to solve a murder! I'd love a story set anywhere in the timeline: when they're teenagers, in the intervening years, during the case, or in the future.
In the past, it would be interesting to read how they met and how they got together. At one point during the show, Alex says that he's not good at relationships, and Molly says that he used to be. What did that look like? Or you could dig into the events around Jenny McGinty's death. What made Alex go with Jenny that day? What was the immediate aftermath like? There are hints throughout the story that Alex's parents may not have believed him about what happened that day or may even have thought he was responsible for Jenny's death. How did that affect Alex? What was Molly's perspective on it?
If you'd like to the set the story during the case, it would be interesting to take a closer look at the night they spent together or each the aftermath of Alex stepping in front of Molly to take that bullet. I appreciated that the story dealt honestly with how the traumas of the past continued to affect them both, and it would be wonderful to read a story that shows the small ways in which they help each other through it. I also loved the magical elements of the story and its spookiness, so if you want to dig into that, I'd love to read it!
Or maybe you'd like to tell me what comes next? Do Alex and Molly get back together? Or become friends and work partners? Do they continue to have supernatural experiences? How do they help each other come to grips with all that they've been through?
While I do want a story centered on Molly and Alex, please feel free to include other characters as well if that's where your muse takes you.
Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso, Rebecca Welton
This show has definitely been my pandemic comfort viewing, and the relationship between Ted and Rebecca is my happy place. I'm fascinated by all the parallels between them that the story has been drawing and how they are always there for each other when needed most. I ship it, but if you don't, no worries! I ship it because of the lovely friendship between them and will happily read any story that shows me more of that.
Because helping each other in times of adversity is so much their thing, I would definitely be up for some light hurt/comfort (physical or emotional) if you're up for it. Maybe one of them becomes ill (not covid) or injured and the other has to nurse them (which would have its challenges, since neither of them would be a cooperative patient). Maybe Ted helps Rebecca through the travails of facing Rupert as an opposing owner. Or Rebecca helps Ted navigate his complex feelings about managing against Nate.
Another idea...it might be interesting to explore a way in which Ted and Rebecca had been alike and are now starting to diverge. For instance, they had their "who needs therapy" conversation in S2, but Ted has started to deal with his issues with the help of Dr. Sharon while Rebecca is still trying to go it alone. How might Ted share his experience of therapy with Rebecca? How might that change Rebecca's feeling about it?
Family is another important part of the show's story, so it would be interesting to read a story in which Rebecca takes a trip to Kansas with Ted or Rebecca plays tour guide when Henry comes to visit. Or Ted takes Rebecca and her mom on some kind of Ted-style adventure to help distract them from their grief.
Or, honestly, if Ted and Rebecca simply go on a proper date that involves getting dressed up and dancing, I'm for it! I'm really up for anything. My only consideration is that I'd like Sam treated gently. I adore him, but the power differential with Rebecca keeps me from shipping it. Feel free to ignore that part of canon or have it simply be in the past. I would prefer not to have a story in which Rebecca ends it with Sam to be with Ted.
Also, I do adore all the characters on the show, so feel free to include other characters if that's where the story takes you.
