Title: La Vie de Famille
Fandom: Inception
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Rating: Explicit
Word count: ~22,000
Summary: Arthur takes a job babysitting for Eames's son. Family happens.
Notes: There's a sad story about this story. I wrote it a while back for the Inception kink meme, and I got it to a good ending point, but I wanted to take it a little further. I worked on it off and on, and made progress, and then—lost the flash drive it was on. Sigh. There's no way I can recreate what I'd written, but since it was already a complete story, I decided at last to clean up the existing draft, post it and stop mourning what was lost. So here it is.

You can also read it at AO3:

If there was one thing Arthur really should have learned by this point in his life, it was not to answer a call from any member of his family on his way to a job interview… )

Passing along two links today (and completely glossing over the fact that I forgot to post yesterday, oops):

1. Transformation and Transcendence: The Power of Female Friendship by Emily Rapp

It's an article from last January, a meditation piece on how female friendship is generally treated in the mainstream media (dismissive and denigrating) versus the reality of how strong and nurturing and important these ties so often are. Female friendship plays a really important role in my life, and it was lovely to read a celebration of it.

2. Hockeyfact podcast

Maybe everyone else already knows about this hockey podcast, but I just found out about it recently. And it's awesome! There can never be enough of fangirls talking about hockey. Two episodes are available so far, with a mix of hockey news, opinions, and fannish happenings. Check it out!

4,000 hits. Wow. Just wow. What an amazing accomplishment.

I have to admit, though, that I wasn't watching. I've been a bad Yankees fan this year. It's not that the team has been losing. It's that I don't even recognize them as my team. In pretty much every game, there's someone who comes up to bat or in to pitch, and I'm like: Who the hell is that? The most fun I had at the ballpark this year was at a Mets game watching Matt Harvey pitch.

Is it hockey season yet?

I haven't watched much TV this summer. Teen Wolf came back on and I just...had no interest in tuning in. I caught one episode of Rizzoli and Isles, and I enjoyed it, but then I kept forgetting it was on. I have caught up on some British shows--Broadchurch, The Fall, Luthor--and I've been making use of my Amazon Prime free instant videos to watch many episodes of Trial and Retribution.

Have there been any commercials for new fall shows? I can't remember any. Is it just me or has TV been largely disappointing the past few seasons? I mean, I adore Elementary, and I like POI very much. I watch Castle and sometimes enjoy it. I'm excited about new seasons of Ripper Street, Haven, and Whitechapel whenever they come along. I can't really think of anything else.

So what are you guys watching? What do you recommend? Are there any upcoming shows you're excited about?

One thing I do really enjoy about Tumblr is all the pictures of hot people and cute animals.

Since I didn't have time today to put together part 2 of the Kaner/Tazer recs, here's an extremely adorable kitty pic instead. Cats! On shelves!

You know you want to click... )

First, for anyone who needs a quick primer on these guys, check out this post.

Now on to the fic! The Kaner/Tazer corner of hockey fandom has SO MANY good stories, something I was reminded of when I started making this list. There are so many good stories, in fact, that I'm breaking these recs into two posts. Part two will come tomorrow.

Now on to the recs... )

Like some many people, I miss the community on LJ/DW. Tumblr just isn't the same. A bunch of people including my dear [livejournal.com profile] no_detective have made the commitment to post every day for a month, and I'm going to do my part and join in.

I promised a few people that I would pass on some hockey fic recs for newbies. Here's the first set featuring Sid and Geno. There's nothing startling here. They're pretty much the stories everyone reads and rereads, but for anyone just getting into the fandom, this is a great place to start. I'll have another set for Tazer/Kaner and a set of miscellaneous other pairings.

Now on to the recs... )

ETA: If anyone needs a Sid/Geno primer, check out this post.

Title: I'm Your Handyman
Fandom: Hockey RPF
Pairing: Kaner/Tazer
Rating: Explicit
Word count: ~7,000
Summary: Patrick breaks things, Johnny fixes them, and then there are feelings; or a tale of home repair and boys being really, really dumb.

Notes: This story is for the vanilla square of my Kink Bingo card. Big thank you to [personal profile] fanofall for the speedy beta. My apologies to home repair.

You can also read the story at AO3:

'If this were porn I'd totally blow you in gratitude right now.' It's the kind of thing that Patrick says, and yet Tazer's mouth drops open in a genuinely shocked sort of way, and huh, did shit suddenly get weird in here? )

I finally got myself a tumblr. I'm scribblinlenore there as well. I still prefer DW/LJ as a platform for fannishness, but I don't want to be left behind. I'd love to find old friends over there. Let me know if you're on tumblr, so we can connect.

Cut to spare the disintereted )

Last year I was all about Teen Wolf. This year I'm going to see what I can do with hockey. I've got my eye on the endurance, wet messy dirty, negotiation and consent play squares. I also want to look for ways to subvert kinks that really aren't to my taste. Seems like this is going to be it for kink_bingo for a while, so I want to really do it up.

Title: Side effects include…
Fandom: Hockey RPF
Pairing: Sid/Geno
Rating: Explicit
Word count: ~11,500
Summary: In this rewriting of history, Sid gets an experimental treatment for his concussion that has some rather unusual side effects. Geno helps him out, and there are complications.

Notes: This story would bear much less resemblance to actual facts if it weren't for the hard work of my beta readers, [personal profile] stlkrchck and [personal profile] mindyfromohio. Thank you! There are still some (hopefully minor) details of the Penguins fall 2011 schedule that I'm fudging in places where history just refused to cooperate with my dramatic arc. Beware dub con of the sex pollen variety.

You can also read it on AO3:
http://archiveofourown.org/works/847368

Worry spikes in Geno's chest, and it only grows worse when he gets close enough to make out Sid's face in the dim light, feverish and glassy-eyed. He puts the back of his hand against Sid's forehead, well trained by his mother. Sid is burning up, and he moans out loud at the touch. Geno snatches his hand away, afraid he's hurting him. This only makes Sid moan louder, with more distress… )

Title: The Unlikely Charm Of Messiness
Fandom: Elementary
Pairing: Joan/Sherlock
Rating: General audiences
Word count: 1,000
Summary: Joan and Sherlock have a moment over pot stickers. Joan ponders what to do about it.

Notes: I really appreciate and enjoy that the show has created such a wonderful platonic relationship between Joan and Sherlock, and yet sometimes I do like to imagine them kissing. So I wrote this, set not long after Joan takes Sherlock up on his offer to become his partner. It's a very belated response to the picfor1000 challenge and is based on this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arjunpurky/2482517713/lightbox/

You can also read it on AO3:
http://archiveofourown.org/works/830303

The sun slants through the cables, a Cubist fantasy of orange-tinted sky and industrial metal, and Joan can't help but see her relationship with Sherlock written in the bridge's superstructure, opposing tensions that create strength, stability. At a glance, there seems no way it should work, but somehow it does... )

Title: Accept No Substitutes
Fandom: Hockey RPF
Pairing: Sid/Geno
Rating: Explicit
Word count: ~7,000
Summary: Sid shows up to practice with a hickey. Misunderstandings ensue.

Notes: Thanks to my hockey fangirl friends for encouraging me in this even though I totally forgot to tell them the punch line. Special thanks to [personal profile] fanofall for the beta. If warnings are important to you, please see the note at the end for something you may like to know before reading.

You can also read it on AO3:

There are surprises in life, things you never see coming, and then there is Sid showing up for practice with a hickey the size of Siberia on his neck; that is a whole other level of freak occurrence… )

My birthday is coming up in June, and I have this tradition that I hold my own personal smut-a-thon. I ask people to give me smutty prompts, and I write some porn. A very fun way to celebrate a birthday! So I'd like to do it again.

If you have a prompt, hit me with it. Right now I'm really into Sid/Geno (that's hockey rpf), but I'll take prompts for any fandom I've ever written, any show I talk about on my LJ, or, really, anything you think I might be up for.

This post will remain open for prompts until my b-day, 6/20. I'll see how many stories I can come up with before Gemini ends.

So...I seem to have fallen hopelessly under the spell of Sid and Geno. Does anyone want to discuss their awesomeness with me? (Because I probably shouldn't keep e-mailing [personal profile] pun every few seconds.) I mean...if there is anyone still on DW/LJ, that is. :)
scribblinlenore: (Default)
My friends are very good to me! Now in addition to the Tazeer/Kaner primer posted by [personal profile] linaerys, there is also an awesome Sid/Geno primer posted by [personal profile] pun. I have so much great stuff to read. So happy!
scribblinlenore: (Teen Wolf: Stiles)
If you're like me and have felt left out of all of the excitement over hockey fic but you don't actually want to bother to learn anything about hockey, you should check out this Tazer/Kaner primer that [personal profile] linaerys put together. It is awesome!

Um...was I hallucinating or did that actually happen on my TV screen?

Oh. my. God.

I'll just be over at AO3 if you need me.
scribblinlenore: (pic#5856372)
So...I had intended to post today about Ripper Street, because I have totally fallen for that show and feel that other people need to appreciate it's delightful slash-fest-ness, and I will still do that at a later time, BUT FIRST!

I'm sure by now everyone knows that a Veronica Mars movie is well on its way to being fan funded on Kickstarter. Oh my God, I'm so excited I can't even. I've been hoping and pining for a movie since the show ended. I just rewatched the first season and was reminded of how absolutely amazing the show was with its razor sharp writing, fantastic acting, interesting characters and relationships, and a murder mystery that had me on the edge of my seat. MORE OF THIS PLEASE, YAY!

I'm also just really excited to see how this is happening. I'm a populist at heart, and I love the great democratizing force of the Internet. The kinds of stories that get told in popular culture don't just reflect our society they shape it. Until the Internet, the decisions about what those stories would be were held in too few hands. The Internet lets us turn our voices into votes and our spare change into movies. This is an awesome day to be a person who cares about storytelling.
