Non-HP Sandbox

I'm happy for all my HP-loving friends on their big day. But I feel a little left out on LJ today. So I thought of a game we Smallville peeps can play.

The Smallville Drabble-a-Thon

Our show offers so much to stir our drabble-writing imaginations, whether it's the long, lingering glances between Clark and Lex in pretty much every episode in S1, Pete checking out Chloe's ass in the rearview mirror in "Rush," or the Lionel-in-Clark lust for mamma Martha in "Transference."

Every episode of Smallville gives us something to write about, a missing scene to add, a wrong we'd like to right. So I propose a drabble-a-thon that does just that. Below you'll find a comment with the name of every Smallville episode that's ever aired. Choose one and write a drabble based on that episode. When you're done, leave it as a comment to the episode title. If you're having fun, do another one! My goal is to have a drabble for each one, so the drabble-a-thon will go on as long as that takes. *g*

Come on out and play! You know you want to. If you don't want to write a drabble yourself, have fun reading them and be sure and leave the authors some love in the comments to their drabble. And please, help spread the word!

And to my lovely HP friends, if you need a break, we'll be here.

ETA: By drabble, I mean something short enough to fit into the comments. It doesn't have to be exactly 100 words, although it can be, if that's what you prefer. Have fun with it!

Here's a running list of drabbles we have so far:
Pilot
Metamorphosis
X-Ray
Cool
Hourglass
Craving
Jitters
Rogue
Shimmer
Hug
Leech
Kinetic
Zero
Nicodemus

"You could've died!"

"And so could everyone else."

Clark's hands curled into fists. "I--it reminded me of Earl Jenkins, almost," he said. "The way you put yourself on the line. Except that time I saved you, but this time I couldn't do anything except wait for you to wake up." He took a deep breath. "Mom and Dad and Lana and Chloe and everyone was dying. . . and then you too."

"I'm sorry, Clark. I didn't think." Lex reached out to touch Clark's shoulder and almost spilled his water when he was pulled into a fierce, tight hug.

Tabula

"I'm sorry."

Clark turned to see Lex at the top of the loft stairs. "About what?"

"Alicia," Lex answered, solemn, sympathetic.

"Why? I barely knew her." Transparent indifference hung over Clark like a raincoat.

"You were married. You never gave up on her. It's obvious you really loved her." Pity and remorse.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Familiar apathy.

Clark at Lionel's trial. Acting ever since as if nothing had ever happened between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor.

"Fine." Lex stopped gaping, nodded, bitterly, coldly, and turned away.

Clark's face flooded with rage and anguish. Then steeled again.

The question had never been if Clark would regain his memory. The only question had been how much he'd actually remember.

Down in the caves, he'd watched Clark's fascination at seeing the symbols again for the first time, knowing without a doubt that if he remembered, Clark would never trust him again.

And now, apparently, he'd lucked out. Clark couldn't remember a thing, and Lex let the lies flow easily off his tongue.

It was while watching Clark slowly disappear in the rearview mirror that it hit him.

He'd just risked everything he had.

And he hadn't felt a thing.

The research on Evan could be worth millions to LuthorCorp's research and development team even if Lex made the research public domain as he'd promised Clark. The team that had examined Evan had already discovered the answers to problems that had plagued some of Lionel's questionable research projects.

"I have a special assignment for S.T.A.R Labs," Lex handed his assistant the specifications.

"You're certain that you want to proceed with this?"

"Absolutely. I will deliver the genetic material from both donors to the lab, personally."

It was Clark's assertion that Lex would one day be a good father that convinced Lex that he was on the right track.

When the assistant left, Lex opened his vault and removed a lead-shielded case. Inside was a tiny vial containing the last remnants of the blood Lionel had taken from Clark

“Lana is, of course, the Chosen One,” Lionel said.

Jason and his mother traded uneasy glances. They weren’t aware of Lana, or her descendant ancestor Isobel, being mystically Chosen for anything in particular.

Lex threw himself over backwards in his chair.

Lionel whipped his hand out from behind him (he’d been surreptitiously working it free for hours) and blasted the Teagues with a Fireball spell.

Then it was just a matter of freeing themselves from their bonds and cleaning up the mess.

“Thanks for the heads-up, Dad,” Lex said.

I can't help writing AU's

"Mom, this is Lex"

"I'm not under the influence of the red meteor rocks, Lex. You'll see." Clark walked up to the wall with the octagonal marking and placed his hand against the indentation.

Lex had to shield his eyes from the glow. Clark took his hand and led him through an opening in the cave wall. Lex's stomach lurched as he felt himself transported across some large distance.

"What is this place?" Lex couldn't discern even the slightest hum that indicated any sort of machinery was present and yet there was light everywhere in the icy white space.

"I suppose you could say that this is my real Fortress of Solitude." Clark approached the crystal pedestal table in the center of the room. He touched the center of it where the pictographs that had marked the stones lay in a circle.

"What do you require, Kal-El?" A disembodied feminine voice asked.

"Lara, this is Lex Luthor."

"Welcome, Lex. I am the repository of the knowledge of the planet Krypton, Kal-El's home."

"You were the stones that people have been willing to kill for?" Lex asked.

"Centuries ago, some of our people learned that our planet was dying. That information was not received well by those that governed. They questioned the scientists' motives for their dire warning. Many were forbidden to continue their research. Some like Kal-El's ancestors continued to work in secret hoping to save as many as they could. They created the stones to hold the history of their world. The stones were brought to Earth and entrusted to people who had helped us as we looked for a new home," Lara revealed.

"Legends grew up around the stones and the Kryptonians, didn't they?".

"Unfortunately, your people mistook us for more than we were. Some worshiped us as gods. Others considered us demons. The stones became objects of avarice. Many suffered because of them. The Council ordered the stones hidden until a colony was established. Along with the key from my son's ship I have been configured in the image of Kal-El's mother in order to assist him as he fulfills his destiny on Earth."

"Colony?" Lex was apprehensive.

"There will be no colony, Lex. Kal-El is the last of his kind. The Council prevented Jor-El and the other scientists from finding a new home or even warning the population that their home was in danger. Kal-El was saved only because Jor-El had constructed an experimental rocket that was able to bring him to Earth."

"What about Jor-El and all his talk of conquest?" Clark demanded.

"Jor-El was driven to rebuild Krypton, Kal-El. You were his last hope. Sons need not fulfill their fathers' dreams, my son."

"Then I am not meant to conquer Earth?"

"There are more ways to conquer a world than through force, my son. Are there not examples of great men in Earth's own history who inspired others to follow their example through their words or deeds?"

Lex's eyes narrowed.

"You speak of Kal-El becoming another Confucius, Jesus or Mohammed."

"I am familiar with these men from your world's history. Indeed, they are good examples. However, I do not think my son should dabble in your world's religions. His talents lie elsewhere."

"Perhaps you should try saving the world one person at a time, Clark. You've already had hero practice in Smallville." Lex shrugged.

"I'm not really sure I'm cut out to be a super-hero, Lex." Clark frowned.

Not sure if you want more than one per episode but...I wrote this the Drabble-A-Thon

[identity profile] innusiq.livejournal.com 2005-07-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
He never forgot the cornfield, the boy scarecrow or the fire raining down, but now he remembers even more.

He's wrapped in shaking arms, listening to a rapid heartbeat and then there's warmth against his cheek. Eyes opened, he locks on the concerned eyes of a small boy with brown tousled hair and relaxes at the boy's relieved smile.

"Lex?"

He's stirred from the study's floor by warmth against his cheek. Eyes opened, he locks on the concerned eyes of a young man with brown tousled hair and relaxes at Clark's relieved smile.

Lex returns the smile, remembering the past.

This is wonderful! And so true. I think the dream about Lex is the one that bothered him the most, and if only Clark could ever learn from his mistakes, this is exactly the scene that would happen. Nice job!

Thanks so much for taking part!
