Huh, I didn't know she had problems during #1's childbirth. I'm jealous of you having all the episodes! I haven't even seen this week's episode yet. Still on the TIVO hopefully.
It's not exactly a squick of mine, but I prefer my slash to be sans the baggage of children. Which sound really harsh, like I hate children or something but I don't, I swear! I spoil my little nephew rotten. I just don't like them interrupting in the possible slashy porny moments ;)
Here's an idea. Hotch's wife wants a divorce because Hotch is more in love with his job (Spence) than her. She's able to get custody because of his dangerous job and family background of child abuse. So Hotch turns to Spence for comfort. And then they have lots of sex, the end.
Of course I also love alternate realities. Like one where Hotch was married to his wife, but they lost the baby in childbirth, which has put a strain on their marriage that was only consummated so they could have the before mentioned child. So he gets out of that relationship and into one with Reid.
Or (and damn these bunnies for attacking me so viciously) because you say Hotch is so responsive to Spence's moods. Hotch feels responsible for Spence's well being after the whole beating him up for show debacle. So when Spence gets into an especially depressive funk, Hotch decides to give him some lessons on how to pleasure someone sexually so that Spence can get himself a girlfriend. Cause what are friends for, right? And of course Spence falls in love with Hotch. Angst and so forth.
Re: stupid canon.

Damn, I wish I was a writer. ;)
