It's such a nice contrast of Clark in his more natural, innocent-farmboy persona, the daisy chain, contrasted to Lex's day-to-day of business grind. And when Lex tries to blend them together, everything seems to go downhill.
Then the twist at the end, that Clark never does give up on Lex -- that's so startling, truly, and really effective as the biggest surprise of all.
