Of Gods and Men

Disclaimer: Clark and Lex aren't mine. Neither are Kal-El and Alexander, for that matter. *sniff*

Rating: R

Summary: What does it mean to be great?

Notes: This is for [livejournal.com profile] nerodi's History Challenge.

Big, big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] corinna_5, [livejournal.com profile] pun and [livejournal.com profile] littledrop for all their invaluable beta reading. I'm not much of a historian myself, and their insights helped make this story much more true to the time. I really appreciate it!

Also, thanks to Nerodi for issuing this cool challenge. There's a scene in this story that's just for you, Nerodi. I think you'll know what it is, and I hope you like it! *wink*

Aaaarrrrgggghhh!!! I want to read it now but must put kids to bed and watch stoopid action flick with feeling-neglected husband!

Can't wait to get to it very soon, though!

I think one of those parades where your path is strewn with rose petals is in order.

Just so very good. I love how you captured the language. The visuals, ah, the visuals. It felt like I was there. So in love with Kal-El. He didn't hesitate to come to his honeys resuce. Oh, the names too hilarious! Also, Kal-El and Petrus (?) too funny! Just great. Am going to be reading this one over several times. Thanks for sharing.

I cannot wait to read this tomorrow!! (can't read it tonight as I am --supposedly--doing work right now and am just taking a five minute break). Oh, I am so excited Lenore! I will report back when I'm done!

Oh, Nerodi, why are you working at almost eleven o'clock on Sunday night? This is so wrong!

But I hope you enjoy the story! And the scene I included for you. *wink*

Thanks, SweetDee! I have to give the credit for getting the language right to my beta readers who went through the story with an eagle eye and got rid of all the "okays" and other Americanisms I had in there. *g*

I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks so much for the lovely feedback! *hugs*

I'm back! (I actually stayed up late and read it)

Ah, those zany raping, ravaging Romans-- how I love them so!! Lenore, you totally captured the behind the scenes intrigue, plotting, fascinations with Gods versus advances in sciences and of course the depravity of the ceasars. Add in to that fucking meant to be love bewteen Lex and Kal-El, and that's just about a perfect story. The Luthor dynamics were the best part of it for me though-- they are just so damn fascinating in any time period. And I *totally* could buy this Lex, Lionel and Lucas. Mmmm. Yup. ALl good.

Now, there are two scenes which kind of had my name written all over them (in my mind!!!) The near double-team of Lex in the cave (where of course in my sick little mind I'm going "do it! do it!" and then the Lucas meets Lex under the colessium scene. I had shivers.

WOnderful story Lenore (as usual!!!) I'm so glad you participated!

(p.s. I was up late helping Mr. Nerodi with some documents he's working on-- because I am a wonderful wife!)

Wonderful stuff Lenore! Brava!

One tiny niggle, a thing prolly nobody but me noticed... the earliest reference I could find to blueprints is in the 11th century AD & even then they're talking about a precursor called 'stuffprinting' - which made me giggle.

Anyway, truly good work here. Yay!

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it. I also enjoy the imperial Roman depravity, and the Luthors really seemed a perfect fit for that. *g*

I wrote the double-team in the cave with you in mind, and that gave rise to the scene in the prison. Because, you know, once you go gratuitous you really can't go back. *eg*

Thanks again for the cool the challenge, Nerodi. It was lots of fun!

I'm glad you liked it. And, hey, interesting to know about the blueprints. Since the Romans were such accomplished architects and engineers, I assumed they would have them. I'm sure they did have plans or drawings of some kind. But I guess "blueprint" is just too specialized a word to use.

Ah, well! A historian I'm definitely not. *g*
