I'm so excited this show is back on!!!!!!!!!

I think this is going to be my reaction to the entire episode:

Oh, Sam!
Oh, Impala!
Oh, Dean!

Also, what does John have up his sleeve? Right now, I'm thiking he's going to do some mojo to swap his life for Dean's. That's my guess. *waits to see what happens*

Oh, Papa. I was giving you more credit than you deserved. I know fighting the demon is your thing, but while your son is on his death bed? Not cool. Not cool at all.

But my sweet Dean, on the other hand, even when you are on your death bed, you're still fighting off the bad shit. *loves you so* Also, no crytals and Yanni! I'm glad to hear it, baby! Hee.

Sammy is breaking my heart with his sad faces and his desperate brother love. *sniffles*

This is very much like that Buffy ep, but they're doing a good job of making their own version of it.

Oh, good! So Papa was planning something brave and noble. I am worried, though, about what he needed to do to sweeten the pot, because the only thing I can imagine the demon wants is Sammy. *whimpers* I feel quite worried for poor Sam. I wonder if they're going to turn him to the dark side this season and pit him against Dean. Then I'll cry.

Damn. Okay, so I'm sad to be right that John was going to sacrifice himself to save Dean, but I'm glad that he finally told Dean the things he deserved to hear. Man. Now I have no JDM in my TV life. *is bummed*

Storywise, I do think this is the right way to go. As much as I love Papa, having him in the story keeps the boys in the roles they've always had in the family. Now they'll have to figure out who they are as men.

Still. *mourns*

ITA this is the way to go storywise. it is time for the boys to be on their own and know Dad isn't there. Also i think this was a good ep for Jensen. It really showed his skill as an actor. I will miss JDM though. *is sad* The scene where he told Dean he was proud of him. . .*weeps*

I think I lost count of my mood swings regarding Papa Winchester in this. God, he infuriates me, but...how can I be mad at him when he's sacrificing himself for Dean? *wibbles*

I think this was a great way for him to go. Separating him from the boys again after all this would have seemed contrived had he survived and now the deal he made can open up all sorts of delicious emotional pot holes for the boys.

Dying to know what he whispered to Dean though. The trust about Sam? Oh, Kripke...

I totally agree with you and I think this is the perfect way to turn the story to move into a new season. However, that being said, I was really enjoying learning what the real dynamic was between the Winchester men. We heard stories for an entire season, it was interesting to see them actually together and I would have loved to see them in a non-life or death stiuation.

I have a theory as well- I don't think Papa W is gone, I think that he may be back in a different form, perhaps as a demon. He sold his soul to the devil to save his kid and now he has to pay for it- at least, that's what I think could and maybe should happen, although give the boys about a half a season to get their sea legs as men on their own.

And man, I need me some SPN icons!

*nods* I agree. There was something right, as much as I hate to use that word, about how John died. In some ways, he did sacrifice his boys to his mission, and in the end, he right the scales by sacrificing himself and his mission for his boys.

It'll be interesting to see if he's really gone, or if he comes back in demon form. That might make me cry. And I'm dying to know the truth about Sam. Of course, that might make me cry too... *stocks up on Kleenex*

I agree that we didn't really get to see enough of the Winchester men all together, not in mortal jeopardy. There was still a lot unresolved between the boys and their dad, and I feel sad for them that they didn't get more time to fix things.

I think you're totally right about him coming back in a different form! That's so interesting. I can't wait to see what they do with it. Although I'm sure it will make me cry if a demon in the form of Papa is menacing them!

I think we'll see more of him in flashback (I hope!) and possibly in some other guise, as you say. Demon!John will break Sam and Dean's hearts...and possibly mine. XD I do think we've seen the end of John in the present. It looks like they're burning the body next week, and they gave him a lot of closure over the course of the last few episodes.

this is just a thought, but if Papa does come back in demon form, and they 'exorcise' him with the extra special mojo, would that make Papa a real person again? I mean, when they exorcised other demons, they flew out of people's mouths. So, maybe they could mojo him back...

And that could be good, ala Angel's soul restoration, or bad, ala raising the dead where Joyce was coming back all wrong... Or indifferent like the zombie gang that Xan had to face down in the zeppo ep.... Or with blood and a price like Buffy....

*g* Anything is possible right? Especially in fic!

That said? I agree that the boys need time to figure out who they are without being under John's shadow... (and what I would give to know what Papa whispered in Dean's ear--maybe the babies are all half-demon or something!) I hope they deal with the angst properly (ie with an arc at least!) and don't just mention it for one ep and then just *move on*
