NaNo continues to plod on. I actually like the story I'm writing, and yet...so much of the time I just want to quit and write about John and Rodney fucking. I'm a sad little thing, I know!

So I decided to have some fannish fun and made a poll about John and Rodney and their first kiss! Just thinking about it makes me happy. :)

Siege III.

Rodney's punchy from sleep deprivation. He spots John in a corridor -- it's the first time he's seen him in relative privacy since the Daedelus returned him. He grabs John by the collar, lays one on him (just like Cadman did to Carson in Duet,) then slugs him.

Or tries to, anyway. Just then Rodney's hit by a spot of vertigo, and ends up sort of stumbling into John. John considers leaving him in the corridor, but hauls him to the nearest upholstered furniture and dumps him.

BTW, that's why Rodney looks so appalled after Cadman kisses Carson -- because he figures John will *never* believe that it wasn't Rodney kissing Carson.

Things are weird after they get back. Weirder. Sheppard's still busy avoiding everyone, afraid his cooties aren't just a figment of a hyper-active imagination and really, whoever says he's a hypercondriac? Has never actually heard Sheppard worry about the things he covers with a smile and a tilt of the head.

But Rodney's not interested in catering to Sheppard's paranoia. Not after his own has been tested sorely enough that Rodney's actively looking for the cameras.

He knows Sheppard, better than the man thinks, so he cuts out of work early and plants himself on one of the long, spindly catwalks that stretch like transluscent spaghetti over Atlantis' towers. The metal is warm when he rests against it, and the air is nice. Clean. Cool. Not stink of insects that chitter-chitter-chittered, no fear-sweat that stung, bitter and acrid, against the back of his throat.

Rodney doesn't do meditation. But sometimes he can be quiet and still, enough that he stops listening for Sheppard, who has to swerve at the last second instead of tripping over Rodney's feet.

"Jesus! McKay!"

Climbing awkwardly to his feet, Rodney ignores the outraged wariness that has Sheppard jogging in place, a healthy few feet between them. He just reaches out a flat hand, pushing until Sheppard's against the wall, staring at him. His eyes are almost green, up here. Too much oxygen in the air, maybe. Or not enough.

"You are a moron," he snaps. It's not the right thing to say, but Rodney stopped caring about that a long, long time ago. "Just, just, the stupidest man I know. Idiot!"

"O-kay," John says. He hasn't objected to being manhandled against the wall, for all he's practically vibrating with tension. "Wanna try that again, only this time with sense?"

The rage is born of fear, stained and stinking from it. It's not his usual kind of rage either, the one that makes his adrenaline pump until his viens throb hard enough that he can feel it, and the impending coronary he knows he'll have. No, this time it's colder. Icy and distant and it gives him the strength to just lean forward. Sheppard struggled, more out of surprise than any true dismay, and Rodney ignores it. He's much stronger than he acts.

Three seconds in and Sheppard's mouth goes soft, lips warm and pliable as Rodney traces over them, catching a hint of breath and the cool slickness of enamal against his tongue, before he pulls away.

"Don't be such an idiot again," he snaps. "I don't have time to train a new Lieutenant Colonel and frankly, Lorne is not worth the effort." He pauses, thinking. "Don't tell him I said that."

He's at least ten feet away before he hears Sheppard say, "Rodney," his voice too conflicted for Rodney to have a hope of decoding what it means. So he ignores it. He's not proud of it, but it's also not the point.

"So stupid," he mutters as he stomps off towards the transporter. And this time, he has no idea if he means himself or Sheppard, who watches him from way up high, fingers lightly touching his mouth.


And dear god, I didn't actually mean to write that. Sorry! :(

Angst makes for a very impassioned first kiss! I could easily see a "thank God you're not dead, and don't you ever scare me like that again" kiss during Seige. And maybe an "angry, but I still totally have the hots for you" kiss in Trinity.

In fact that would make an interesting challenge. Pick an episode and write a missing scene or tag fic containing John and Rodney's firs kiss.

I picked the after the Hot Zone one. But maybe it happened after the Defiant One. Because Rodney is dusty and grimy and he looked super hot filling the wraith with lead, but he's also sad and his eyes are suspiciously wet. So John sort of claps a hand on his shoulder (to give him manly comfort) and starts to say something when Rodney looks at him with his woobie face. Before he can stop himself, John presses a tiny closemouthed kiss to the corner of Rodney's downturned mouth.

John's original plan was to dump Rodney in his quarters (he wasn't expecting to need his bed anytime soon, and hey, they're closer than Rodney's) but Rodney turned out to be a little too heavy for a tired middle-aged Major.

Fortunately, Rodney had cornered him just a few doors down from the lounge the team used for movie-watching nights.

In The Return. After they got back to Pegasus and surprised Rodney and Teyla, John dragged Rodney--or maybe Rodney dragged John--around the side of the puddlejumper.

"We did it!" Rodney stage-whispered.

"We just got the band back," John whispered back. "We didn't do anything yet."

"But we're *here,*" Rodney said, and the "we're home" was easy to interpret, and they were both grinning at each other with giddy relief, and then John leaned into Rodney--or maybe Rodney leaned into John--and they had ten seconds before they heard footsteps around the side of the ship, but by God they made the best of those ten seconds.
