The Feedback Meme
Feb. 4th, 2008 01:54 pmYou know, I often want to participate in things like the Feedback Meme, but I feel like I'm pandering too much for attention, so I don't. Lately, though, my writing has been going...well, kind of poorly. So I decided: pandering, why not? *g*
Here I am.
In unrelated and completely unsurprising news, I still really, really, really love Firefly. A lot!

Date: 2008-02-04 07:50 pm (UTC)Um. Here, have my one contribution to Mal/Simon: Time to Rise (http://alizarin-nyc.livejournal.com/87291.html).
Would you say Mal likes Simon's eyes because they're like sapphires or because they're like the sky? Discuss.

Excellent question! On the surface of it, Mal doesn't really much go in for fanciness like jewels, and the sky means freedom, which he loves more than anything. So in the front of his mind, he thinks Simon's eyes are like the sky, that last, fine, deep stretch of blue before you break atmo. But deep, deep down inside, I suspect that Mal has a fascination he'd rather not feel for fancy things he's not supposed to have, that don't belong to him, hence the fascination with both Inara and Simon. So maybe sometimes in the quiet of his bunk, he admits to himself that maybe Simon's eyes remind him a bit like sapphires, and he finds the notion rather a pretty one. Oh Mal! Oh Simon! :)
Now I'm off to read your story!

Date: 2008-02-04 08:50 pm (UTC)Mal doesn't go in for fancy -- but he does go in for a paycheck, which is why I reckoned he liked the sapphires. But in the black, he's likely to miss the sight of a blue sky, so. HM. Perhaps its sky after all that really is nearest and dearest to his heart.

Just today, I was randomly reflecting on how much I always sucked at science labs when I was in school, and how I don't remember much about 'The Scientific Method', and then I recalled yr Clex story by the same name and grinned and giggled! Funny AND hot, it don't get much better than that.

Date: 2008-02-06 07:09 pm (UTC)Okay, well, I'm going to view this as a LurkerAmnesty opportunity, because I've owed you comments, like, forever. A friend recced your SV stuff to me quite some time ago - not even one of my fandoms - and I read and loved it. Now I've recently seriously fallen for sga, and I've read every. single. story. of your sga. And re-read most. I've decloaked, and am trying to make amends for all the wonderful reading various writers have provided me.:)
I agree with the others who've said that one of your many writing strengths is a fairly unique ability to combine funny and hot with depth/emotion, without ever, ever getting to melodramatic. I can't even begin to list all your sga stories which I think are *so* special. Warriors of Bakkai and Gamers come to mind as stories where the emotion underlying the action is beautifully rendered, but there are so many. Only Grumpier, and With Dark Hair - lol! A great example of your many fics which are screamingly funny, uber HOT, and also, again, have underlying depth.
I can't sign off without a word about your M&C fic - Devil's Deal is just plain joy.:)
I hope whatever is plaguing you about writing gets better soon - writing is such an amazing thing, really - so much of it can't really be quantified. Please know that you are one of the best. Seriously.
By the way, can I friend you? I couldn't find a policy. No problem either way, but I'd love to. Also, since I'm letting it all hang out, I sure hope you write more sga and don't get sucked too far into other fandoms.:)

Date: 2008-02-13 07:18 pm (UTC)You know, I suspect my problems with writing are really just a cyclical thing. Sometimes words come easily, sometimes not so much. This is the not-so-much time right now. *g*
