So I have this tiny little moment in a story where John wishes he were listening to some band, and I was just going to pick one, and then I thought: I will poll!

John is ALL KINDS of classic Southern acid rock. SKYNYRD, MAN.

I kind of think so, too! It's so-- American. :)

"Freebird" is his *anthem*.

Though he's also all about the Johnny Cash, so I'm thinking he has a Neil Young side (Canadian!!!1!) too. At least, there's a connection in *my* mind . . .

I'm putting on "Freebird" while I write!

And also "Simple Man" because I think that song was formative for him, too.

Oh, absolutely. In my head, John's a good Southern boy, but his family moved around so much that he has no discernible accent -- possibly more than one posting in a remote northern area with silos (because if they'd spent too long at any one base in the South, he would have come out of there with the weird Southern amalgam all drill instructors have).

And because of this, he is all about Cash, and Skynyrd, and probably Eagles and anything else remotely rockabilly.

Skynyrd. Hands down.

I'm listening to "Freebird" right now! It's like it was written for him!

Not only that -- most of the original band *died in a plane crash*. It's like they were MINT2B!!1!

He likes the Eagles (because, really, who doesn't?) but he's got ALL the really good classic Southern rock, too. Skynard. Allman Bros. And while he doesn't have a lot of David Allen Coe (because some of it is really really completely inappropriate and wrong), he's definitely got "You Never Even Called Me By My Name", because that's the greatest party song of all time. *nods* Marshall Tucker Band. Wild Cherry. Georgia Satellites. All of that good stuff. Mmm, nostalgia ^_~

*is nostalgic with you* I grew up listening to all of that. I'm sure John did, too!

He was probably eight when I was born. Ish ^_~ If we're basing John's age on Joe Flanigan's. *contemplates* But it'd still be roughly right, because my family treated me like a tiny grown-up and my aunt was a grand 12 when I was born, so I got exposed to huge amounts of her music.

OH. GOD. HE OWNS MEATLOAF'S BAT OUT OF HELL.

ON VINYL.

*dies* =D

There was a Johnny Cash poster behind Sheppard's bed in "McKay & Mrs. Miller." :-)

The Who!

I am actually looking forward to the day Roger Daltrey guest stars on Atlantis. He so should. You know you want him there. I want him there.

Boston is my choice, hands down. (It's the hair.)

Also, Boston is very "one of these things is not like the others," in this list.

David Bowie! Because, you know! John's always liked to fly and space, and also, Diamond Dogs changed his life.

/me can totally picture john listening to "won't be home" by the old 97's while rodney listens to 'the new kid' by the same and grumbles about chaya.

I picked the who b/c well, rebellion and screaming and all, but couldn't you just see him driving down the road in an old convertible with the top down or motorcycle with Steppenwolf's 'born to be wild' in the background? Or Cream, b/c chicks dig the 'poet' in him (yeah, he pretended to be an artist too once, the girl still calls him every so often, never mind that time he smiled really big for the base commander's daughter and told her he was super-secret special forces).. or something... lol!

Well, the weevils are split on this one. I think he probably likes all of the above bands, with a slight preference for Led Zeppelin. But M thinks his favorite band is Dire Straits, particularly "Sultans of Swing." And I can kind of see that myself, actually, now that I think about it. So there you are.

I voted for Led Zeppelin (because a boy never forgets his first love) but now that I think about it, I think John's a Creedence man.

It's canon his favorite musician is Johnny Cash, so of those you listed I'd say Lynyrd Skynyrd. I think he would also like Springsteen, Willy Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and The Dixie Chicks. Plus of course Kenny Loggins, since he did the music for Top Gun. *g*
