Okay, okay, so there's a second thing: I've really missed slashy destiny talk. Like, a lot.

(And yes, btw, it is the slowest work day EVER, one meeting, and now nothing else to do, and I am watching TV at work. But the office is strangely empty! And no one even cares that I'm here! I still feel kind of guilty about it!)

What kills me (besides the super slash, obvs.) is that when anyone else saves the King's or Arthur's life they get fabulous gifts, but when Merlin does it he gets the glorious reward of being a servant to Arthur? LOL!

Yay! I, too, have been seduced by the slashy destiny talk and have already written a story. Merlin's like Smallville, but with monsters and magicians instead of mutants! And instead of a destiny where the two main characters become enemies, these two become BFFs!

Oh, yay! I was just thinking that as soon as I'm caught up on episodes I'll need to find the fan fic. And yes! It's nice to see destiny bringing boys together instead of tearing them apart. That's just what I need, something that's sparkly and fluffy and extra slashy. I say again: yay!

Heh - I watched the first ep last night and am now midway through ep 4. It's totally Smallville with the linked destinies, except I have this crazy idea it's the inverse of Smallville. Part of the reason Lex went bad is because Clark never trusted him with his secret and just lied lied lied the whole time (well, and the whole destined to be bad/parenting skills of doom from Lionel - it's certainly not Clark's fault since Lex had choices). I wonder if (since Arthur is a bit of a schmuck) his good destiny will be drawn forth by Merlin when he finally learns Merlin's secret. Or something.

I don't think I'm completely enamored yet, to be honest. I love the Arthurian legend in general, and there's some interesting stuff going on in the show - but I keep thinking, oooh, stay away from Morgana Arthur! It doesn't end well! And yet so far she's pretty cool. Meanwhile Guineveire is the love of Arthur's life, but she and Merlin seem to be shipped. It's Smallville and their weird obsession with pairings that won't go anywhere all over again. I'm waiting for the Lady in the Lake to show up with Excaliber (this is not a spoiler unless you count Arthurian legend to spoilery - I'm just assuming it will happen).

It's interesting and people are saying it gets better. Ep 4 is an improvement of the slashier kind, although I'm still waiting for it to be better plotted.

I think we mostly have to throw out what we expect, because it really seems like they're going to do their own thing with all the relationships. I don't want to spoil you for the next couple of episodes, but there are several things that seem "standard" for Arthurian legend that seem to have been tossed out. It doesn't seem the same to me as with Smallville and Chloe and Lana and the like.

I just came across your 'what are you watching' poll when I was doing my irregularly unscheduled round through journals I like to check for SGA fics, when I noticed that you're into Merlin too these days.
