I'm ambivalent. I like that the show makes fun of itself, but I don't like when it makes fun of the fans. And over in my journal (here: http://spiderine.livejournal.com/360328.html) I blather a bit about a theory -- and it ain't about bunnies.

Everyone feels differently about these things, but I thought the fun-making about slash was good-natured. And the fact that they made fun of some of the show's lamer writing made it seem all the more so to me.

But then, while I enjoy the show, I don't feel all that invested in it. So I'm sure that makes a difference to my reactions.

I was wondering that myself. I can't think of another instance when fandom was pointed out like that, especially not slash fandom, and you know, most especially not 'cesty slash fandom.

I'm trying to think if slash has ever been mentioned in any show I watch. I can't think of an instance. And they even mentioned the Wincest. They TOTALLY went there. Pretty mind-blowing.

I do wonder what people who were watching last night but aren't in fandom make of all that...

Yeah. I just about died of shock. I figure this episode's definitely going to get mentioned in that academic journal that's coming up.

I've got a male friend who's a casual watcher. I didn't even know that he watched Supernatural until I was squeeing over last night at lunch and he's like, "Oh, I saw part of that." So I'm going to jump him with questions tomorrow. Hey, everyone's wondering what the 'normal folk' are thinking about this. I figured I'd just go ask one.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few people don't join fandom over this. I mean, I can just see some innocent person sitting there and going, "Hm, Sam/Dean. I never thought of that, but it sounds like a good idea."

Me too, me too! Castiel's whole wink-wink nudge-nudge "I can't get involved in this" schtick, while of course totally getting involved, was a thing of beauty. Castiel has SO decided which side he's on. And it's Dean's, Dean's, all Dean's!

OMG, LENORE!!!

And for some stupid reason, last night J decided he was in the mood to watch the show with me! I WAS LAUGHING AND BLUSHING AND HE KEPT LOOKING AT ME ALL CONFUSED.

The bad writing line was my favorite. Or rather, tied with Cassiel's, uh, obvious... appreciation... of Chuck's prose (especially the full-frontal-Dean parts, I bet).

I was totally wondering what someone who's not in fandom would have thought about last night's ep. Was J confused by that exchange about the Wincest? (Or was he just wondering why you were blushing? *g*)

I think the line about bad writing might have been my favorite. I also laughed really hard when Castiel said, "You should have seen Luke." Hee!

And the Dean/Castiel vibe was totally tasty last night. I loved how Castiel was all wink-wink nudge-nudge "I can't get involved," while he was totally getting involved. Is there anything he wouldn't do for Dean? That's a subject I like to ponder. :)

(Gah, I keep calling Castiel "Cassiel" - the angel who falls for love in Wings of Desire. It's not even subtexty at this point! *g*)

It's safe to say that Dean/Castiel is currently my 'ship of choice on SPN. They just SIZZLE - and it's even better that they seem to be doing it intentionally!

As for all the meta in the ep, I think J didn't get at least SOME of the references and was not sure why I found it that amusing. Thankfully, he didn't care enough to ask.

Then again, he also doesn't ask me why I have a certain Disney kids' show on the DVR... which, btw, totally FAILS at being my aversion therapy but that's another story... *sigh* J is a wise man.

I was totally bwahahahah-ing (which could be heard throughout the house). Srsly--could. not. breathe. :)

And I even yelled-with a huge, huge ginormous grin-at my tv 'you sneaky sob! I love you, man' when Castiel was all--but I *need* to tell you why I can't get involved, no really, Dean, you have to listen to my *reason*. (was v. glad the tv was superloud in the other room)

I was very surprised they could straightface the 'cest conversation. I kept waiting for them to crack up--was also surprised they went all the way there too!

But I like the actor who was the prophet, he was also on Threshold. :D

All in all one of my favoritest episodes ever!!! :) Can't wait to watch it again! :)

Oh, yes! I love the whole wink-wink-nudge-nudge scene between Castiel and Dean where he's getting involved by explaining why he can't get involved. There's super hot chemistry between those two. I have all kinds of fallen angel thoughts! :)

And yes, yes, yes to watching the ep again. I definitely have that on my agenda.
