New Year/Oceans Eleven/2004 Fandom Year in Review

Happy New Year, everyone!

I spent a nice evening last night with my mom and got back to New York today. It's hard to believe my vacation is almost over! I had a nice time with the family. I ate more than should be humanly possible. And I even made one slashy discovery.

Oceans Eleven.

I'd never seen it before. My brother is a fan of the original movie, so we watched the remake when it was on network TV. At the end… When Julia Roberts tells Brad Pitt, "We should get you a girl, Rusty"--you could just hear in parentheses, "Because I'm tired of sharing my man!" *bg*

I know there's some Oceans Eleven slash out there. Now I understand why.

I got back home to discover I'd gotten a postcard from my college boyfriend whom I haven't spoken with in, like, fifteen years. The postcard is of the area where my family lives. All it said was happy holidays, and was signed from him, his wife and kids, whom I've never met. Actually I didn't even know he was married or had children. We didn't exactly end on the best of terms, and that's why we haven't kept in touch. So I'm really wondering. What is with this postcard?

I love to make year-end lists. Actually, I love to make lists period. So I did a year-end fandom wrap up. It was a fun year!

Mmm, Oceans 11, so good. Avoid Oceans 12 if you can. If you're looking for good O11 fic, you must read "Confidence Men" (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/1/confidencemen.html) by Dorinda - it's the perfect Rusty/Danny story - and check out the oceanfic community.

Yay for Rusty/Danny fic! Thanks so much for the rec, doll. I can't wait to check it out. The two of them were so seriously hot together. Mmm. Oceans 12 is bad, huh? That's too bad.

I'm so glad you liked "Family Rituals." I definitely plan to write more VM fic. In fact, I'm about halfway finished with my next story. VM is my new favorite show. I love it lots!

Yes, I thought of that and asked my parents, but they hadn't seen him. Maybe he was just in the area, and it made him think of me. I've decided to see it as a nice, if odd, gesture. :)

The sequel, Oceasn's 12, has an even slashier scene between them in it. Great movie! :)

BTW, I was re-reading the vampire ficlet you wrote me for my birthday recently. If you ever want to write in that universe again, feel free. I'm not going to ever write a sequel to Craving Red, but you're welcome to if you want. If you are ever interested, I still have my notes. You could use or discard them as you like.

Hmm. I keep getting conflicting opinions about Oceans 12. Some people loved it. Some people said it wasn't worth seeing. Of course, if there's a slashy scene, I'd say that makes my decision whether to see it or not rather easy. *g*

You know, I think I missed that story I wrote for you when I was compiling my list. I'll have to go back and add it. I don't know if I've said this before, but I miss you writing SV fic! Kyptobiology remains one of my favorite SV stories of all times. I'm sorry you're not going to continue Craving Red. I thought your idea for how Clark becomes a vampire was so original. I appreciate your letting me play in your universe, though! I'm never sure where inspiration is going to take me, but if I get in a vampire-y mood, I may take you up on the offer to send me your notes.
