Wow, the AP is reporting that the Sox traded Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers. That's just...wow. Despite all the rumblings, I never honestly expected that to happen.
The GM was seriously sick of his antics. It was worth putting up with when his numbers were that good, but since they've been dropping... a lot of articles have had him talk much more plainly about how 'disappointed' he was by Manny. So I figured it'd be at the end of the year.
Not necessarily mid-summer.
And, once again, my beleaguered pirates cannot hold on to ANYONE that doesn't suck *waves goodbye to Bay as he goes off to hopefully greener fields*
*nods* Yeah, Manny is a total pain in the ass, and it was clear that the Sox weren't going to pick up the option year. But it just seems to me that it opens the GM and owners up to intense criticism for the trade if the Sox fail to make the post season or if they lose early on.
Of course, it's entirely possible that without Manny punching people, the mood will lighten in the club house, and the Sox will play better than ever. That's what I love about baseball. It's so beautifully unpredictable.
Sorry about your Pirates, doll. You guys have lost so many players. I hope you got some dazzling prospects out of it.
Yeah, we're pretty excited to have Pudge. I've always been a big fan of his. And he certainly solves our dire catching situation. It must have been really fun to watch him play in Texas. He's so exciting behind the plate.
I knew they wouldn't pick up his option year, but to me, it's a bold move to trade him during the season. If they don't make the playoffs or lose early on, their fans and the media will crucify them for getting rid of Manny.
I couldn't believe it either. Who trades their best offensive player during a playoff fight? But Manny deliberately forced the issue with all the things he said. That prima donna only cares about one thing, and it sure ain't his team.
Anyway, a very happy day for Yankees fans!
But it was marred by a very ugly debut game for Pudge tonight.
I think they're just sick of his shenanigans. He does the same crap every year at this time. Well I wouldn't mind going, blah blah blah. He's an ungrateful git. And with that gazziolion dollar option, they're better off.
*nods* Manny is definitely obnoxious, to the point of being unbearable, really. It's just really quite a bold move to trade your best offensive player in the middle of the season. It'll be interesting to see how it all works out.
I think I get to blame it all on Scott Boras? I've decided he's to blame for Manny suddenly talking all this shit. That's the only reason I can decide that management decided to trade him now; before everything he said last week I had been in the "no way do we trade him during the season camp." It's hard for me to imagine the team with the Manny/Papi combination - we'll have to see how the two of them do separated once the end of the season approaches!
He's fun when he's hitting and all the stupid things he does are amusing rather than annoying. I hope Joe knows what to do with him!
I tend to be of the opinion that Boras is the devil, so I support you totally in blaming him. You know, even as much as I'm a Yankees fan and Manny just killed us and I should be glad he's gone, I'm going to miss seeing him now that he's over in the National league. He is just so amusing. Although I suppose I won't miss those towering homeruns he was always hitting against us. *g*

And then I thought: Then again, Terry Francona seems really cool and like a player's manager.
And then I was back to: Poor Joe!
