I'm toying with the idea of doing an advent thing again, only with fannish tropes instead of holiday themes, since I pretty much exhausted all my holiday inspiration last year. It all depends on how busy I am. But even if I don't, I thought it would be fun to see which fannish tropes are people's favorites. Hence a poll! In three parts due to length.

The sad part? The ones I didn't click I still love to pieces. Why yes, I am a whore :D

LOL! Well, I didn't include any on the list that I didn't like, in case I do end up writing them. So...um, I'm right there with you in the whoredom. *bg*

Met differently. Or just the general "AU" thing, which is kind of more of a category than a trope?

I wasn't sure if AU was too broad a category to put on the list, but I probably should have, since AU's are my own personal favorite. :)

If I could have put three ticks next to tentacle sex I would have. There can never be enough tentacle sex.

Date: 2007-10-15 03:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com
There really is so very little tentacle sex out there, which makes me sad, because it is a weakness of mine.

Fannish tropes, how are you so awesome? Thanks for giving us ticky boxes! if you'd chosen me to pick only one of those, I think my brain might have exploded.

You left off a favorite of mine -- sex for supernatural purposes, such as a magic spell or religious rite.

Which probably explains my two favorite kinds of fandoms -- stuff where this stuff happens as part of the milieu (HP, SPN) and stuff where Our Heroes walk unsuspecting into the middle of a ritualized setting (Stargate, Dr. Who).

This is an awesome idea - have fun!

Date: 2007-10-15 04:21 pm (UTC)

Ah, magic sex is a good one! At this point, I'm not sure there are ANY fannish tropes I don't like. *g*

My favorite thing in the whole world is pining. But I think that just sort of fits into a lot of those. It may be why "two boys, one bed" is one of my favorites, though.

I picked nearly everything here. And I wouldn't say there's anything on this list that I don't like. Heh. But next you should do a poll where we have to rank our favorites! Oh, the agonizing!

Date: 2007-10-15 04:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com
Hee! I didn't bother to fill out the poll, because I only included tropes that I like. I really wanted to make this a "rank your favorites" poll, but logistically, I couldn't figure out how to do that in a way that didn't leave me compiling data. 'Cause I'm just not a data-compiler, Punny.

Oh, Lenore. You make Monday bearable. And hot! ;)

As I mentioned on Saturday, I find the sublimation thing very exciting thanks to Pushing Daisies. (What is it with het these days?!) Actually, come to think of it, "not allowed to/can't touch" trope is OMG SO HOT - because physical or psychological restraints usually lead to dirty talk and/or voyeurism. Remember the Talking Dirty (http://toft-froggy.livejournal.com/220548.html) fic in which John and Rodney are in separate jail cells? GUH.

Ahem. Yes, you certainly made my Monday much better, darling.

From: [identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com
I LOVE it when some kind of impediment stands in the way of a couple, whether it's not being able to touch, or DADT, or one thinks the other's not available. I love seeing how that desire persists and expresses itself in other ways. That is just HOT. And I love that John/Rodney story. I think I'll go reread it now.

Fannish tropes make everything better, really. :)

In my current small fandom (Criminal Minds) about a million per cent of the ff.net fic I've read is kidnap fic -- and was LONG before the kidnappee character, Reid, actually WAS kidnapped on the show -- an episode that was so incredibly fannish I'm still not convinced someone there isn't reading the fanfic to see what people want! I think another good one for Sentinel and others with a tender young'un is like prison fic but involves institutions for the criminally insane. *g* Always a winner. 21 Jump Street did THAT as an actual episode, yum!

I too restrained myself from ticking everything I've ever read (or written!) and loved, picked more the ones I'm likely to home in on if given a summary. A hustler with wings? I am so there! Fun way to start the day, thank you!

Date: 2007-10-15 04:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scribblinlenore.livejournal.com
Reid is just MADE to be kidnapped, poor little sweet! And, yes, I agree with you about Criminal Minds. They do seem to know what we like.

Also, hustler with wings? I'm a little ashamed of how much I enjoy that idea! :)

I'm trying, mentally to narrow it down to my favorite three or so. It's really hard.

1. Aliens/demons/something made them do it!
2. Hooker fic
3. Wing fic
4. Sex slaves
5. High school/college AU

There, I think that's it. Might change by tomorrow, though.

Hell, it might change by tonight.

The problem is not choosing everything and the kitchen sink telling myself it's "fic types I couldn't live without"; the problem is reminding myself "it's friggin' Lenore writing!!" and going back and choosing a bunch more just based on that.

Lady, you could type up a phonebook and it'd still rock. Darn you.
